Which 980 Ti would you go with out of these two?

Hi. I want to upgrade from my current MSI 780 Ti Gaming SLI setup to a 980 Ti SLI Setup. I'll start off with one and get a second one for SLI soon after. I've narrowed down my options to two cards, the Asus Strix and EVGA Classified. There is one other variant that I would consider simply because the card just looks sexy as hell and that is the RoG Matrix but it isn't out yet and don't know what the pricing will be.

I really like the new Strix and I most likely would have ordered it already if it were in stock but it isn't. Newegg got a batch on July 8th and sold out the same day and has not had another batch since. I have no clue when it will be back in stock. The only thing I know is that the retailer B&H website says they have an expected delivery date of August 31st.

The Classified was also sold out but it looks like Newegg got another batch of them today.

I think that the Strix may be the better choice out of these two but I don't know much about them besides what I've read in the reviews and I don't know much about the technical stuff. The Strix is also $40-$50 cheaper.
I'm sure they would both perform about the same ultimately especially considering they have the exact same clocks but I would like your opinion please :) thanks

Strix cards are a great deal. I have 6x Strix GTX 970's and they all run flawlessly @ 1503mhz core.

Asus' RMA process sucks so much ass. Their hardware is fantastic, but if it ever breaks, you are utterly screwed. Their support is basically the worst of all the vendors. Just ask @Solaris17

I'd go for the EVGA myself, simply because their support is much easier to deal with.

well ... based on some user review of their RMA dep. indeed you could not recommend them but with a Asus history like mine (currently having a Maximus VII Ranger and a 980 Poseidon Platinum) and no hiccups whatsoever (even the 290 that was replaced by the 980 is still pristine) you can recommend them easily, tho it's a roulette

i would not go with EVGA myself ... i had a bad experience with them with a 680i mobo and a GTX 460 (not in the same year ofc, otherwise i would say it was bad luck :D ) i don't remember quite well but i'm pretty sure i saw some complaint about the same issue ... (and also ... they are notoriously more expensive where i live but that's situation dependent )

PS: my Striker Extreme (680i SLI from Asus still work and is used by a friend ... unlike the EVGA )

Yeah, don't get me wrong, their products are grade A when they work as they should. Some of the best video cards on the market. It's just if something goes wrong, you're kinda boned, stuck talking with broken english support workers who are exceedingly useless and leave you without your hardware for weeks on end.

Thanks for the replies fellas.
i recommend you buy x2 Gigabyte Gaming G1.
- You are not the first to recommend the Gigabyte. Any specific reason for it? I'm sure it's a great card but I just never liked the windforce coolers as they've always felt like flimsy plastic to me. I've also read horror stories about Gigabyte being notoriously arrogant in their factory overclocking leaving cards unstable at stock.

I want to go with either Asus or EVGA because they are considered the two strongest competitors for Nvidia. Don't get me wrong I'm sure MSI and Gigabyte have good offerings, after all I'm using two MSI 780 Ti Gaming in SLI right now. I just want to go with something else this time.

You are not the first to warn me about Asus terrible support. I'm fairly certain that Asus is by far the biggest brand there is, it's just surprising that the biggest one has the worst support, but then again maybe it isn't so surprising. I have not dealt with them yet myself but I have an RoG Swift Monitor that has one bright pixel. I almost never see it but it's there and pisses me off anyway so I've actually tried calling Asus about this twice now and both times I've basically been hung up on. I will try again today and maybe I'll even call their video card department to test it out lol.

That being said, this new Strix PCB is built by robots! What can go wrong, right? The only problem is it isn't in stock anywhere and I have a feeling Asus doing this on purpose. Almost every other brands variants are in stock except for this one and B&H has an expected delivery date of August 31st? come on.

I do like the Classified too though. I think I'd prefer the Strix but what do I know? The classy is a bit more expensive but is available now.

Anyone know if the classy has a metal shroud or a plastic one?

If you want to play with overclocking, I would get the classifieds as they are generally a little higher in the market compared to others for quality and performance.

However if your going off of overall quality, I like the Gigabyte G1 Gaming cards a little better for the bigger cooler and higher stock clocks. Generally I do not have issues with Gigabyte cards being unstable so I would recommend them to anyone looking for a good quality air cooled card. Comparing it to the new 3 fan Strix is hard for me as I have not gotten a chance to see one in person yet, but I have loved the Asus Strix series before so I would say between them they are probably on par with eachother.

yea it's just a toss up between the strix and classy for me now. If the strix were available I'd definitely order it but it isn't so have to decide if I'm just gonna go with the classy now or wait for the Strix. If I do end up waiting for the Strix maybe Asus will release the Matrix within that time. From what I've read, they are set to release the Matrix, poseidon and 20th Anniversary very soon.

I want to know if the Classy shroud is metal or plastic and can't seem to find an answer anywhere

@7950 Flex the classified has a plastic shroud, but looks and feels nice, the best looking card I have owned. It is huge and heavy, very nice back plate.

I have bought the asus 980ti strix and already sent it back. The cooler, once 55% fanspeed, makes the body of the card vibrating...You can hear it case closed. It could be a common problem with this model. Such a crap. The cooler could be quieter, spinning fast (case must be well Ventilated). Ad a bit coil whine, althought faint (only case open). This is too much for a graphic card so expensive. Thanks Asus.
And I have the feeling cooling capacity of semi passive cards(other brands included) suffer from this specific design, with less surface for radiators (hot hair must escape without help of a fan), making cards louder.
This card is very long, it's a pain to fit it in a Nzxt H440 case, especialy with a big Cpu cooler, since You cannot put it in straight (case specific).
This purchase was a big fail. But are other models better...(disappointed)

My 980 Ti classy will be here tommorow. I decided to check the ASIC quality of my current card(s) MSI 780 Ti Gaming and I got 81%. I have two of these in SLI and I'm assuming that result is just for one of them, guessing the top one? Anyone please tell me how I can check the score of the bottom card other than replacing it with the top one?
Also, is 81% good? thanks

Ditto, it beats them all, and I truly believe Giga has the best support too, but you're less likely to require it with their product.

With the 780 Tis the classy wasn't the best card for air OC. I don't know if this is still true.

But one thing that is for sure is that it looks sweet, feels solid and has some heft. And you get some of the best support and warranty in the business with EVGA.

Zotac GTX 980Ti AMP! Omega - I just got last week. She runs quiet, no coil whine and when idle temp is low enough, the fans turn off. The build is solid, the fans are not flimsy.

A few complaints made towards the Extreme and Omega cards from what I've come across are:
1) Coil whine
2) Power Target limted to 111%
3) Weight of the card, some say it sags on the MB
4) takes up 3 slots

The only other concern of mine that I would add to the list is that the card is just shy of 13" long. So make sure you have room for a really long card if you go for one of these models.
