Whatever the middle setting is on the Sidewinder X3. It's around as fast as I had the DeathAdder set to, which I also never needed the highest setting for (left it default, which I guess is the middle setting). I just need quite more than 1000 DPI but a bit less than 2000.

I get infractions now for no reason. I got one the other day and when I asked what it was for I was told "happy birthday". I have yet to figure that one out.

600,800 and 1000. I stick to 800 most of the time, 1000 for big stuff and 600 for sniping.

Edit: I use a Sidewinder X5 in case anyone wants to know.

has anyone ever cranked their DPI to max then used the sensitivity controls in game to 'dumb it down' ?? Ive read in a few forums that there are a few people do that (why have a mouse with high DPI if your not gonna make use of it they say)

Im slowly increasing my DPI for gaming & also my desktop probably 200dpi up every week or until ive got used to running at that speed

IMO its better to do it the other way round, because the mouse loses accuracy at higher DPI

I have a 1st gen MX-518. Without the Setpoint software installed, you can change from 400/800/1600. I use 1600 in games, unless I'm sniping, where I use 400.

As for adjusting DPI in games, I sorta do that. It's not so much as dumbing it down as it is tweaking. I might change the sensitivity from 1 to 1.5 or something, usually to more in vehicles. So I guess I never turn it down. But I don't have a crazy high DPI mouse either.

Wouldn't a higher DPI be more beneficial when sniping?

Nope, it makes the crosshair move too quickly across the screen, with a low sensitivity it allows you to make very fine adjustments when you're shooting from a long way away.

5600 DPI ...works a treat, I cant stand going back the the MX518 she is using on her rig.

Works great for clearing a 24" screen left to right with 3/4" of movement from me, and makes cropping images a snap;)

apparently its a more subjective thing, - its like the argument of 'gaming grade' peripherals & accessories - do we really need them or not?

some people can pwn using a trackball mouse made in the 1980's, other people can pwn using them annoying rollerball mouse things that sit on your desk that you have to roll a ball around with your thumb to move across the screen. & others can pwn with advances in mouse/optical technology.

just because one guy says it dont work for him dont mean that it wont work for us all. & lets face it - if all this stuff really didnt make any difference at all, how come that side of the market is still around & healthy with manufacturers such as Logitech, Razor, Saitek, Raptor & all of the newer or older names that have just started making gaming peripherals still around or just entered the same market? for instance - CoolerMaster only use to make cases - now their making other stuff too! & their cooler master sentinel Advanced is a kick ass gaming mouse!

So it does make a difference, it makes a lot of difference. but it depends on the way that you utilize your equipment or most importantly your style of play.

So you can put your faith in blanket statements but the rest of us (or at least some of us) will beg to differ.

I switch between 3200 and 2750 DPI depending on the game and use a 1000Hz polling rate.
