    hello everyone
I am seeking assistance in finding a good graphics card to game on.
So far I have narrow it down to either the 3870 or the 8800GT.
The thing is I can't find it in stock anywhere in Australia, NSW for a DECENT price and good brand (sapphire, EVGA, XFX, and etc). any ideas where to look and which one is better and how much by?

if they are the same price buy the 8800GT. if you can get the 3870 for even 20$ cheaper I'd go for it. both will serve well I guarantee.

actually with your power supply, you had better get the 3870. its a bit better on power requirements

if you get one of those I'd like to know how it performs on your system. I have a similar system and am hoping that the CPU wont be a huge bottleneck. sure it will bottleneck some but hopefully not too much

i would prob go with the 3870 unless you get a very good deal on the 8800 though the 3870 uses less power and it will serve you well (m friend has one and he loves it)

Right now, 3870 seems to be the answer. Cheaper and easier on power requirements... so less heat, therefore overclocker friendly

I dont mind upgrading my psu, I've been wanting to for ages. My friend has a 3870 and his system is very similar to mine (slightly better) and the cpu isn't bottlenecking his computer but his ram is (opt148, 1gb ram)

in the usa we have a choice to get the 3870 which is cheaper and doesnt perform as well or the 8800gt which costs a little more but is a much better card.

but in Australia the 8800gt is cheaper than the 3870 which is a double bonus because the 8800gt is a much better card performance wise and is cheaper than the 3870 which isnt as good.

as for finding them in the store you are not alone, everywhere they are in short supply so all you can do is watch the store shelves or talk to the manager to find out when they get delivery of more. if you can preorder it online then just do it and wait for a week or two till they get some so they can ship you one.

as for brand i would say the EVGA is the best company and XFX is next best.

Where are u looking for your prices? the 8800 has been more expensive everywhere and if it is cheaper they are out of stock

Do what im doing - Wait it out till early december when Nvidia release its new card, then start comparing, since they'll all be within a similar price-range, and the new card is looking to outperform both the 8800 and the 3870.

i agree with Huxley2k7 in waiting if you can because with the new cards coming out, they will have a better supply of the 8800gt and 3870 cards at the stores AND they should drop the prices a little lower since they will have a better card out there for sale.

the new cards may not be all that much better so if you still want the 8800gt or 3870 you can save a few dollars by waiting. no matter when you buy it, there will always be a better one coming out next month.
