Hi See my computer specs. Now I need a good graphics card. I am limited tho as I have £160 voucher for CEX(dam they are making some serious money off me LOL) Now these are the choices I have:

    5870 1GB
    http://uk.webuy.com/product.php?sku=SGRAATI58701GBPCE
At a push I could maybe do this but ideally NOT :)
    GTX 285
    http://uk.webuy.com/product.php?sku=SGRANVIGEFGTX28521A
    GTX 295
    http://uk.webuy.com/product.php?sku=SGRAHGD70A1
    5850 1GB
    http://uk.webuy.com/product.php?sku=SGRAATI58501
Nvidia GeForce "Fermi" GTX 470 1.2GB
    http://uk.webuy.com/product.php?sku=SGRANVIGTX4701280

This is so I can play GTA iv and battlefield 2 on res 1920x1080. Which of these cards can handle this? And not that there is such word as future proof in computing but which one would last longest

    Cheers

gta iv is memory hungry on GPUs so you may need to turn down settings w/ any of those cards. Any possibility of the 6850 on that list? It can OC like crazy based off of wiz's reviews.

My recommendation would be either the 5870 or the fermi off of that list though.

I'd recommend getting a 5870 as I needed a new card as well for the upcoming games and directx11. I was choosing between a 5870 and a 6870 and ended up going for the 5870 as I had the extra money to spend and wanted good performance gain. 5870 consumes less power and is quieter and cooler than the nvidia cards you have chosen.

if you can wait tho, i'd recommend holding out 'til the 69xx series comes out as it should result in a price drop on the 5870s (hopefully at least lol)

I actually think i am going to go for the 5850 due to the price and its not exactly a bad card. Plus with my current rig most cards will help me run games on decent settings.

I dont know much about the 5850 but what i do know is that gta 4 LOVES VIDEO MEMORY, AND LOVES NVIDIA CARDS.

Right now GTX 470's are priced as low as penny change in dollars right of newegg @ this moment and are really nice cards.
everywere GTX 470's are being dropped down in price.

The GTX 470, will perform better in GTA 4 then the 5850, which is at the same price.

In overall performance without overclocking, the GTX 470 is 10% faster then a 5850.

Yes the GTX 470 is a hot card, a little hotter then the 5850. I only say a little hotter.

My GTX 470 barly loads up to 75c in games, with 80% ussage.

With driver, and bios updates, the fermi cards, some how lost a bit of heat.

Id get a GTX 470 for gta 4 anyways hands down, it needs that video memory!

Man, if you don't know yet, nvidia will launch soon the GTX 560, which was meant to be GTX475.
Also, it is a card that is going to fight against the 69xx series of ati. It is already confirmed that it will launch.
So wait a bit more for great performance out there and pay less!

Sadly tho, As i said earlier. I can only get a card from a shop called CEX. because I have a £160 voucher. So realistically I can not wait for brand new card as CEX deal with second hand stuff. So the list at the top are my best options sadly.

    Bubs,

    Ignore the GTX 470, 5850 and 5870.

The 6870 performs faster than the 5850 whilst being about £10 cheaper.

The 6870 performs only 3% slower than the GTX 470 (average) whilst being £60 cheaper. (The 6870 is faster @ higher resolutions, I suspect the 6870 would be even more faster once drivers mature)

The 6870 is only 7% slower than the 5870 which is almost £100 more.

The 6870 is hands down the fastest card for under £200 and is almost as fast as the cards priced above it. In the mean time put your 4850 on Ebay, they sell it for £50-70 so that is a nice little discount off the 6870!

    Edit:

Might I also add, that at the high resolutions, the 6870 is clearly faster than the GTX 470! Which is a good indication from a card thats just been released!

    Hi Dent how r u?
I would love to get the 6870 Dent but im stuck because i can only buy stuff from CEX. And the above are my only choices. And Dom the thing that scares me about the 470 is i have read quite a bit about it and it seems to generate an awful lot of heat

gtx 470 doesn't run that hot unless you're overclocking it but as dent said above the 6870 is the best choice for your price range right now.

    I'm fine.

Out of the cards that you posted from CEX, the GTX 295 gets my votes, its the fatest card out of the ones discussed in this thread and its is faster than the 5850 enough to justify the £30 additional spend and its faster than the 5870 1GB which is £25 more. Beware GTX295 runs relatively hot, has high power consumption and is likely to have a annoyingly loud stock fan but in raw performance its a good choice second hand, bear in mind if you had the option to buy away from CEX I wouldnt recommend the GTX295.

a 470 do just fine doing GTA IV at 1920x1080 settings high. But if it is in budget, a 5870 would better. Both of the card have a DX11 compatible.

I'd say the 470, but with a better cooler than the stock.

shame you can't get HD 6870 because its faster than GTX 470 and with MLAA you can get AA with GTA4 with almost no performance penalty.

Cheers every one. Iv started selling my stouff on ebay instead of being lazy and taking them to CEX. Only sold 4 items and I have already got more money than what I would have wiv CEX. I got £35 for e6400 core2duo cpu. CEX was only going to give me £12. Anyway I got £120 now so a bit more and then I will be able to buy 6870 :)

I'd say the 6870 is worth the extra 12 quid.

But what is the best. I mean if you scroll up and down this page it theres a few votes for 6870 and a few more for 470. I cant make my mind up. As for the cex voucher, I have decided to sell my stuff on ebay instead, only sold 4 items and got £120. So skys the limit, Which card should I get? I dont wana get the 5970 although if it was £200 then hell yeah but not £400+

That's what I'm saying, sell the voucher to another person : ]

Also I'd get the 6870 for sure, overclocked ( at-least in this one example) it falls a fraction behind a gtx 480
