Which GTX 980 ti Graphics Card should I buy?

I'm trying to find the right gtx 980 ti to buy this week. I know sometime in july some other models will release... I've learned today the price r9 fury cards are going to be @ and I don't really think it's gonna force the gtx 980 ti prices down... it might a tad bit... but my gut feeling tells me not really

So with the research I've done up to now the best cards to match my color scheme (in my case) and for cooling|noise|performance would be either of those:

- Asus Strix or ROG
- MSI gaming gtx 980 ti
- Gigabyte g1
- maybe some zotac model although I don't know if they're that good.

I've been looking all over Canadian websites, and can't find any of those in stock. If you find one in stock somewhere, I'd be eternally grateful :)

Been without a graphics card since I sold my gtx 970 lol.

How many GPU advice threads do you really need to make? This could have been asked in the last one.

You're right. I apologize. I've become a little obsessed since I sold my gtx 970. I must admit I didn't think it would sell so fast. Usually takes me more time to sell my current gpu.

Take one from MSI Gaming or Asus Strix. Just about your taste to it's cooler look. They both are good, and for me, both on number 1.

..well.. slight benefit on Strix side, in it's aluminium cooler cover, vs regular MSI plastic. Looks solid nice and good to know if you own ^^

maybe some zotac
I do not recommend. Quality control. Not that bad, but a bit lost to two large vendors. Tech features as well.

Also, don't forget TechPowerUp Review Database http://www.techpowerup.com/reviewdb/Graphics-Cards/NVIDIA/GTX-980-Ti/

Clearly the ASUS Strix 980Ti is not yet made by ASUS.

Is the reference version any good? 649.99 from EVGA aint bad at all.

Well depends on what you want to build.

The look and small for factor (not to mention the stock cooler) are better on the Fury X. However the GTX 980ti comes with aftermarket air coolers with more choices right now which could sway if you do not want to deal with liquid cooling. As far as performance goes they are both on par stock for stock (Depending on the resolution) and the GTX 980ti can overclock more from what we have seen here.

Personally I prefer the look and design of the Fury over the GTX 980ti reference design and I like liquid cooling. As far as the coolers go I am a big fan of the GTX 980ti Windforce coolers.

So here is my list of pros and cons:

Fury X
1: Superior stock cooling
2: Small Size
3: Quiet
4: Freesync is cheaper than Gsync (If your looking into that)

GTX 980ti
1: Slightly lower power consumption (depending it seems to be about 20watt difference)
2: More custom cooler options
3: Better overclocking

One question I had remaining is: What about Crossfire with the fury x? 2x Radiators to fit in the case? I've heard rumors about a "dual gpu" card. I must say I'm not very familiar with the concept of a dual gpu single card.

What does it involve? Is a single dual gpu card considered by the PC as a single card or is it going to be treated as Crossfire or SLI ?

I have had plenty of those, they are treated as two cards linked over Crossfire or SLI same as you would two of the equivalent card. The only major difference is the fact its one PCB with two chips on it versus two separate PCBs. They do not involve anything out of the ordinary to run other than a PSU with enough power to handle them of course as a dual GPU card generally consumes 1.75-2 times the power of the single GPU card.

What case are you using, it is possible in most regular sized cases to fit multiple radiators so it would all come down to which case you use.

I did some further research and I won't be able to use the fury x card because it doesn't support dual dvi. My monitor is a yamakasi catleap monitor with nothing but the dvi-d input. I could use an adapter but they only support lower res or a good res with low refresh rate (30-60).

So yeah, I'll be looking at 2x gtx 980 ti most likely and I have a full tower NZXT phantom case but I already have a 240mm radiator at the top of my case. I could probably use hybrid models of the gtx 980 ti so I can go water cooling... But if I do that I'll probably have to mount one of the 120mm radiators to the back of the case and the other at the bottom of my case in taking air... Not the best scenario but the only one that I think can work considering I don't want to do custom loops with fitters and complex installs.

I love the ease of use of AIO coolers as long as they perform well. I got the NZXT kraken x61 for my cpu

Enough said.

Note, this card is said to be heavy, but only 11.6" long. Some have said it doesn't even sag.

Im picking up the MSI 980 ti gaming myself. I would've had to wait over a week for an Superclocked EVGA 980 Ti due to supplier shortage. Plus the extra $40 was taken off. Did I make a good choice?

Is that the OC mode on?

1279mhz OC mode on the MSI 980 Ti gaming.

This will be my 4th Nvidia card. The first 3 were all faulty and returned.

I went with 2x MSI GAMING gtx 980 ti.

Matches my msi gaming 5 mobo. Although if I had to do things over, I'd definitely buy an Asus mobo along with Asus gtx cards

I'm still leaning toward the Giga G1. The Zotac Amp Extreme is now being shown for sale at close to the same price with slightly higher clocks. I've seen no reviews with both the Zotac and Giga G1 yet, but in Guru3D's test the Zotac slightly beats out the MSI by a few frames on each game. In TPU reviews, the MSI and Giga are tied on performance summary, but Giga runs a bit cooler and WF models often OC higher.

http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/zotac_geforce_gtx_980_ti_amp_extreme_review,1.html

So the Zotac is king for out of the box performance, and will likely remain so once the Strix tests come in, but I still like Giga for their temps, OC ability, and support.

It's possibly slightly slower than the G1 but I think that's all going to come down to how each individual card overclocks. You could get lucky with the zotac or the G1. I ended up going with the G1 at the end of the day.

On W1zzard's tests, the MSI and Giga are pretty much dead even on overall performance summary at 4k and 1440p. Only slight variation is MSI is slightly better at 11% above a ref 980 Ti at 1080p, vs 10% on the Giga. It's not something you'd even notice.

I take into account cooling, OCability and support though, which is where I feel Giga pulls ahead. You add that to the fact that the Zotac costs a bit more and only very slightly beats the MSI by a few frames, mostly in very high frame rate scenarios, and I don't feel the Zotac is worth the extra cost or heat. Zotac claims you get a 5 yr warranty for registering, but I have my doubts about how well they'd actually honor that.

That said, if you're not wanting to OC or pay very much, MSI is probably the best value. Then again, we've not really seen the ASUS Strix 980 Ti yet.

I've not seen where the Zotac beats the G1 once overclocked. I think the zotac is just clocked higher out of the box.

As for the strix, reviews are out and it seems to fall behind the Zotac and G1 slightly. Other reviews I've seen do not indicate poor thermal performance like the guru3d review does. I think their sample just had a problem with the cooler.
