The latest bios for both the msi and asus are pretty solid. I'd say they're about the same.

Biostar TP67B+ ;)

Hmm seems to do it all but it doesn't have some of the features ASUS has but they're not ASUS though. Is it a cheap motherboard?

I cant seem to find it here in the UK

Nothing cheap about it...I prefer it to my Asus mb. :toast: ( It does 5.3GHz just as easily as the Asus)

Thats one heck of an overclock and one thing that i can't get over with Sandy Bridge! I'm assuming thats bench overclocks as I read some where that I shouldn't go over 1.35v on the Vcore is this right?

Motherboard looks good otherwise:toast:

Edit:

OK so whilst reading I've noticed that the ASUS has and extra PCI-E slot @ 4x so I'm not sure if that will allow for tri sli or tri Xfire. However if I'm using a godzilla heatsink the MSI mobo would win but I'm using a waterblock so no worries there. The MSI also has better sound but the ASUS has a better power phase due to DIgi-VRM.

Ahh choices.

Question: Has the heatsink layout changed from 1156 or whatever the previous generation was? My water block supports the older generation so I'm hoping they havn't changed it.

I've been benching all of the 1155 mb's over 1.5 vcore for some time now and there have been no issues. The reason I tout the Biostar mb's is thier bios works correctly out of the box...not so for the other manufacturer's...:shadedshu

Yes, your 1156 heatsinks will work just fine. I see no reason to spend more than needed when less performs just as well.

Biostar has really stepped up with 1155 offerings. If you want a Biostar board with more features, get a TP67XE. Google it, and you'll find that it is probably the performance to price 1155 board on the market. Really solid bios, especially the last couple of updates.

Were you taking about the waterblock or the motherboard here?

I can see why you tout the Biostar;), I wasn't aware of people having problems tho with their BIOSes:wtf:

I would say that the Asus is better than the MSI. Judging by the specs and by my knowledge that Asus creats top-quality motherboards and other electronics, I would suggest, if you are already narrowed down to those 2 motherboards, that you consider the Asus.

Good luck! :)

I say the MSI Board Personally.... But that is just my opinion. I like ASUS.... I like em allot.... but have had even better luck with MSI Board especially lately. Plus MSI's Propitiatory software actually works.

biostar is nice board on pretty low price, it could be considered when you are on budget. ive run biostar about 2 years and the performance is solid

i make a correction: well known is yes, on top maybe. for some people brand could mean much but on this case i guess both of them are the same, just pay attention to features like oc, benchmark, power phase, cooling solution, interface like what ports on that, how many pci, pciex, esata, usb 3.0, dual bios, and so
but anyway if you use well known product it means it would be easier to find driver, apps and support

Not bashing on different brands here. The guys on my bench team report the bugs on most of these motherboards and we swap info on a regular basis. All of them so far are capable of doing the intended task...it just boils down to how much aggravation you are willing to put up with to stay with a specific brand name. Your overclock will not be limited by any of these mb's...it is merely luck of the draw of a primo cpu.

I needed a cheap board and just got sick of waiting for the TP67XE. So I grabbed an msi.
