I'm not sure what cards you are referring to in the first two links because they don't take me to a card they just take me to the site. The MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G is the card I decided on and have it on back order. After considering a lot and digging around for reviews and info I consider it to be an amazingly good card.

GTX 970 is more than enough for 1080p. You only gain a small performance increase with a reference GTX 980 for about $200 more. It's just not worth it.

It depends on which game and your specs. Fill out the system specs in the user CP

Monolith have said that despite recommending 6GB VRAM for the HD Texture pack Ultra setting on Shadow of Mordor, they have seen the 970 handle it adequately, which is a good indication of just how fast and powerful it is, esp since PCs are still somewhat hindered by non unified memory, which in itself can cause stutter, particularly with huge hi res texture files.

If you must buy soon, my recommendation is a Gigabyte Windforce 970. They have two models now if you can find them in stock in your area. One is 1178 core, the other 1114 core. Other than that they are identical.

You didn't list your PSU, but you'll want at least a decent (28a minimum) 500w PSU for a 970.

What about gtx 980 can it maintain 60 constant fps?

Not in every game with either GPU. Can you run ultra and AA and AO and 60 FPS average in almost every game with GTX 970 at 1080p? Yes, but there will always be some exceptions. The thing is how much do you want to spend to catch that last game or two (like Crysis 3) under those conditions?

What will games require a year or two from now? I can only speculate. My plan is to use the MSI GTX 970 on 1440p monitor and wait for the 20nm GM 210 Maxwell to see what it brings.

i don't plan to sli because my mobo doesn't support it .

How often do you buy a new video card? If it's every 2 years then get a GTX 970. If you keep them a lot longer then wait on the non reference GTX 980. It shouldn't be much longer.

From the reviews here. EVGA GTX 970 OC

GTX 980 reference.

It's just not worth the extra $200 for this performance increase over a GTX 970. If the GTX 970 isn't enough then wait a little while for the non reference GTX 980s.

What GPU do you currently have?

Reason I ask is, I wouldn't spend too much on current tech because Nvidia's Pascal in a little over a yr, is going to smoke all current tech by quite a margin. It's because this time around we're not just talking the run of the mill die shrink and more GFLOPS, we're talking radically new features like stacked DRAM, unified memory, NVLink, and Dx12.

All these features will play a major role in dramatically improving rendering efficiency.

You still need to fill in your specs. You may need something else before you buy the card. List all your hardware
