The console itself is not bad. It just does not have any games I want and I don't see any games I want coming to it, so it's off my radar and has been ever since its debut.

And as we all know the definition of failure is everything one's not interested in. I call WiiU the last true console, Xbox and PS are just PC's. :D

Eh, it's not very balanced console - it has underclocked cpu from xbox360 but more powerful gpu. Multiplatorm games end up looking same and playing worse than xbox360 instead of looking better and paying same. Nintendo games really shine though, but those are rarely published.

If a console doesn't get enough games, it is a failure. To me, it's a failure. I don't need to take others' opinions into account when deciding that. After all, I pay and play those games that I want.

exactly the wii u is sitting in a position similar to the wii now but the sales are not shaping up like the wii did(and it sold big time) and the games are just not there yet, its shaping up to be a failure even nintendo came out and said its not a good successor to the wii. If nintendo wants the wii u to not fail they need to go and get more development on it, theirs not ONE game on the wii u that I personally can think I need to get a wii so I can play that, but thats me but if nintendo aquired atlus I would have gone and bought a wii u soon as it was confirmed but they let that slip through their fingers, and this happens over and over again with nintendo.

I think smoking and drinking cost way more than any other hobbies I've seen. A 10 dollar for a pack of a smoke everyday and add alcohol to that...

PC building and gaming aren't much compared to that.

After seeing the absolute horrible image quality of both systems I wouldn't consider either.

The jaggies look atrocious.

Especially on the Xbox One, Battlefield looks like garbage.

If I wanted to play with NES graphics I would play my NES.

PC gamers get hurt when people like different things sometimes..I'm not sure why.
Console gamers just as much - and at owners of different consoles, too. You'll see this kind of silliness regardless of what hardware one has.

I remember the glorious Amiga - Atari ST one-upmanship wars back in the 80s. It was hilarious. I was an Acorn owner and felt rightly superior to both of course... (sorry, couldn't resist, lol)

Youtube videos at 480p do not show the quality of the consoles. BF4 looks and runs fine on XB1.

I've watched plenty of 1080p videos of both consoles and PC compared.

Which is kind of throwing the Xbone a bone, no pun intended, considering it only renders its games at 720p to begin with.

But whatever, the consoles look like garbage.

The best representation is probably Linus' examples.

He managed to get virtually identical actual gameplay scenes from the Xbone, PS4, a Low End $550ish PC, and a High End $1500 PC.

Even the low end PC outperformed the consoles.

The low end PC looked better and ran smoother than both consoles.

BF4 looks like total trash on the Xbone.

There was one scene where Linus was shooting from inside a building and there was a pickup truck down on the street.

The truck looks so hideous.

Instead of having a straight line at the top of the bed it just looked like 3 steps.

The game doesn't even look like a current generation game on the Xbone, it looks like BF2.

Seriously, that is only a very small exaggeration.

The Xbone one in particular looks like crap, but the PS4 isn't far behind.

Honestly, anyone buying these consoles is and idiot.

I can build you a PC that will deliver the same video quality, including an OS, for pretty close to the same price.

I want to give you examples.

Look at this scene on the low end PC:
Here

Notice the truck and the roofs of the buildings.

Now look at the same scene on the Xbone:
Here

Look how much more obvious the jaggies are on both the truck and the tops of the buildings.

It just looks horrible.

I could barely see the difference between the Xbone and the Xbox360.

It really is terrible.

Yeah, I watched Linus' videos on it yesterday. It doesn't really matter what they prove or disprove. BF4 on XB1 looks great, and you can't really tell unless you actually play it. Sure AA sucks, the textures look alright, the game flows well at 60FPS even if it's upscaled 720p. It's a console, and is obviously cheaped out to allow a larger profit margin. Guess what? Console gamers don't care, it's a serious upgrade from what they spent the last 8 years playing. My PC has old hardware and BF4 looks much better on it than the XB1.

As far as BF4 looking like "total trash" on the XB1, you're out of your mind. Go play it somewhere, Youtube videos limited to 30FPS will do the console no justice. 1080p or not.

Framerate on the youtube videos has nothing to do with how the games look.

I can see a still frame and tell you that the games still look like trash.

Big whoop, they got the games to run at 60FPS.

Well they run at 60FPS on the PC too, but the PC looks so much better.

And that is the point of this.

It used to be that consoles offered better graphics than a similarly priced PC.

However these "Next Gen" consoles do not.

Reviewer after review agrees with me, the consoles simply do not provide the expected level of graphics.

These new console's graphics are already garbage, so it is a waste of money to buy them.

Such an enlightening post.

Care to actually post some factual statements related to the topic, or are you just trolling?

Wow, neat, the PC looks so much better. I never disagreed with you. It does look so much better.

eric, I don't think it's fair to judge a console based on a YouTube video, because of the lossy compression used on it. You lose quality when it's first recorded and then again when YouTube stores it on their servers, even 1080p. That can really mangle a video, even if the artifacts are subtle.

The upshot is that even if the PC output looks better in every case, you should find that looking directly at a console output still looks pretty decent. I remember seeing a PS3 some time back (some racing game) and being surprised how good it looked despite the hardware being so much weaker. Of course, I was useless on the joypad, but that's another story.

In short don't judge a console's output unless you've seen it first hand and preferably side by side with a PC and on the same games.

EDIT: also the framerate on YouTube videos is all over the place, seriously degrading graphics quality. Just look at a console's output directly and then you can judge it objectively.

You have to take into account the convenience of a console, couple of leads and its up on your big screen tv, that is partly why people buy a console, plus quite a few people probably have a pc and a console, so they will know the pc is better, again it is about convenience.

You mean connecting it to your box hoping that internet will play nice and let you download the big ass day one patch without stalling.

Mostly at the owners of different consoles. Console gamers don't hate on PC gamers really..because they have no reason to honestly. Hell yeah they hate on each other but that's part of the fun in online debates (IMO). It's usually the opposite way around - PC gamers mostly act like elitists, and it happens a LOT on this forum. As a PC gamer myself I think it is retarded, but it doesn't phase me because I have fun with my console and PC and play different games on both. Some I enjoy more on consoles like Battlefield where some I enjoy way more on PC like Left 4 Dead. Just honestly depends.

If I had the money I'd probably pick up a PS4, simply for the price, and to have it around incase something releases on it that interests me (God of War or something along those lines maybe). For the past 3 years my PS3 has just been a Home Media Center, which is what the PS4 would end up replacing if I got one. Then I could hook up the PS3 in the kids room and get him some Lego games and such for it. Nothing will replace my PC gaming, but would be nice to have one.

eric, I don't think it's fair to judge a console based on a YouTube video, because of the lossy compression used on it.

The framerate isn't going to create jaggies.

Why are all you console fanboys trying to say the framerate is making the difference?

Framerate doesn't affect image quality.

I can look at still frames and point out all the garbage rendering on the consoles, framerate has nothing to do with my points.

Also, I'm comparing footage from the PC that is also on youtube and gone through the same compression.

So that point is moot.

And again, youtube compression isn't going to create jaggies, it actually makes them less noticeable.

BF4 is running at low resolutions on both consoles with next to no AA because they aren't powerful enough to do any better.

And that is ridiculous.

The current consoles barely match $350 PCs.

voted on the Xbone, got one yesterday and the games actually give some nice eye candy. Youtube does the PS4 and Xbone no justice at all.
All in all it isn't no high end PC but it's better then the previous Box :D

eric, you really have no idea what you're talking about, do you? lol.

I'll try just this once to explain it to you.

First of all, who are you callng a console fanboy? Do you see what rig I have in my specs and do you see which way I voted in my poll? Here, I'll make it easy for you: I've got a high end gaming rig and I voted neither - PC gamer. "Console fanboy". lol  Oh and I don't own a console.

Framerate most certainly does affect image quality. Juddery animation looks shit. End of story. Why do you think gamers spend big bucks on high end rigs with fancy graphics cards like twin GTX 580s in mine? To get rid of it, that's why. And to get rid of it while having the rendering quality turned up, of course.

Everything on YT is juddery to one degree or another and hence looks bad to some degree. Seems to be caused by Flash itself as far as I can see.

Of course the compression is applied to PC and console video recordings and I addressed that. Also, how do you know that any two recordings were processed the same? This would apply when the original recording was made and also to YT, depending on their compression policies. Quite likely they were not, creating different artifacts.

Just to make it really clear to you, the compression will significantly reduce the quality of both PC and console recordings. Now, the exact way it interacts with the image artifacts in each machine's output (they're always there to some degree, even with the finest pictures) will lead to different subjective degradations. Of course, we know console will look worse than PC as a starting point, so introducing ugly compression artifacts can make that picture look like shit, whereas if you viewed that console picture on the TV/monitor it was intended for it could look quite acceptable and maybe even decent. As the PC picture is likely to be "very nice" on a high end rig with the quality turned up, those same compression artifacts may look a lot less objectionable. It's not rocket science, my friend.

And as far as those jaggies are concerned, yes they're there, but again, the compression artifacts can make them look subjectively worse than if you saw the thing directly for the reasons I described above.

Come back to me when you've compared PC and console (either brand) directly on a TV/monitor as that's when you stand a chance of knowing what you're talking about.
