Okay so I purchased a GIGABYTE GA-MA74GM-S2 Revision 2 and it has been a nothing short of a nightmare! At first the board seemed fine, and did exactly what I needed it to, and recognized all 14 of my Seagate Barracuda LP 2TB , then sudenly 1 day 2 of them disaperead and I could not make them recognize at all, I figured they might have died, but not only could I see them in the bios, I confirmed they were fine in another computer.
Okay I thought "I'll flash the bios it is 2 versions old after all" , go to the Gigabyte website, and downlaod the bios updater, and go to run it. Turns out in Gigabyte's infinate wisdom, they for some reason with their auto updater do not allow 64-Bit Windows 7 to execute the bios updates WTF!? Well dammit, ugh, okay I'll do it manually, rather than go through the trouble of installing a 32 bit vesion. So after alot of cursing and angry words and empty threats at the computer I did manage to flash the bios. So I assumed "all is now right with the world again" not so fast.
So I fired up Fire Fox, and went to the tech support page and fired off a complaint/ help request. And got the world most incompitent person to reply to me in broken english (after 2 days!). Who attempted to inssist that I had to re-install windows again to make it work correctly again, "sorry, but I'm 100% shure it's a hardware issue" I stated back to them. I then got a reply reitterating the same thing, that nothing was wrong with the motherboard and it had to be Windows at fault ( I felt as though I was dealing with someone on the same intelligence plain as a knuckle dragger from Geek Squad) and that they could not help me until I re-installed Windows. Well it seemed as though the mobo had other plans, because it solved the argument for us and just up and died after about 1 1/2 months of use.
Now here is where the true nightmare begins! I got a card board box and some foam peanuts from the garage, and put the mobo and all the things it came with and went the website to prepare a sheet for RMA. Well come to find out the RMA page wasn't working I couldn't input text nor did any of the submit or date buttons work). So in desperation I fired off a help request.

Question : I get this error on your RMA page
"
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Named Pipes]Access denied.
/DirectRMA/dbutil.asp, line 618
"
Also when I attempt to add a new RMA request, I do not get a submit button, nor can I input any text into into the name slot. your RMA page is broken! "
And I got this response:
" Dear customer,
We are sorry, our RMA web was down on pass couple days, please resubmit RMA request on this web:
http://rma.gigabyte-usa.com/DirectRMA/EndUser_Main.asp
Or contact our RMA dept at 626-854-9338 select option 4 , they will help to assign RMA."
Which was the most help I had gotten thus far in this adventure. Which is rather sad! So I then filled out the RMA form ( even after filling out the RMA form with all the information, they have you manually fill in a second form to put in the box :shadedshu ). What ever it was done and I would have a new one in 2 weeks according to their claims. Well it took 3 weeks, but I recived a mobo. I opened the box, and I found the mobo box, with what seemed to be a refurb sticker on it w/e not a deal breaker. Then I noticed it looked alot like the exat mobo I sent in, as the packages for the SATA cables were opened, with great dread I checked the serial number agaist what was in my records and sure enough it was my exact same mobo. I assumed they had fixed the issue, and went about installing it back into my case. To my dissmay, it was still dead. I opened up the help page and sent a very angry complaint in. And called the support number. And after 30 mins of being on hold, I finally got someone. The woman seemed rather indifferent to my situation and insisted that it worked when it left their service department. I then told her that I was sending it back in and that I trusted the problem would be solved.
Three weeks later I did get a box with a new mobo in it. Okay so I thought the problem was finally fixed, WRONG ! Now it sees all the drives, but now I seem to get random BSOD's one points to the memory, the other points to the proc. I know they are both fine as they both came from another system and it worked just fine, I also swapped parts and the problems persist. So I re-installed windows, and the BSOD's continue! Ughh now I am fed up, the support center people are indifferent and useless! I will be selling the mobo. I just purchased an ASUS mobo from Buy.com, ASUS M4A785-M. And I do hope it will be much better than the Gigabyte mobo I have. I will most definatly say that I will never be purchasing another Gigabyte product in my life time, nor will I ever say a nice word about them.
I also advise all of you to avoid them like the swine flu! I won't say I hate them, but I'm not far from it. If I had a choice of rectal cancer or a Gigabyte product I would take the cancer!
