Right now Globally, Helldivers 2 and Last epoch are the top 2 selling Games on Steam. The Homeworld 3 Demo was disappointing but we all know the potential of that Game. They are also priced properly (Canadian Dollars) but my argument is that it is only February and we already have some really killer Games. If this trend continues it will force MS to lower their prices. I even saw that they are rereleasing Star Wars Battlefront from the PS2 era. If you notice the DLC for Elden Ring is right up there too. For those who wonder about numbers, the fact that the Steam Deck is basically fifth in Global sales speaks well for AMD's baseline Numbers. It is interesting how many people are initially downloading CS2.

I have waxed on about Space Marine 2 and Titan Quest 2 but even TWWH3 has updated their latest DLC to make it somewhat worth the asking price and released today.

I think 2024 is the year we are seeing "maybe" semi-normal release pattern of good games after the effects of lockdown.
2023 was the year we see it improving and this is the year for sure.
But honestly we still got a long way to go, we need to see the big companies(Sony for example, since they shut down these studios) start releasing the "A" and "AA" tier games release again to fill the gaps of "AAA" games.
Games from third party studios from like Bandai namco, capcom, small studios that are part of Square enix and Atlus etc are pumping these games but get overlooked because of no marketing.

That’s a, more or less, pointless question to even ponder. Every year is a good year for gaming if you know what you like and have no real expectations. It’s also incredibly matter of taste depending. Everyone keeps going on about how outstanding Elden Ring is/was. To me, it’s just another Souls game, which I grew bored of a while ago. So, YMMV, as always. To me, this is a good year by default since I get both a mew Ys game and a new Trails game.

You are looking for a new Ys Game and I am not saying it is pointless when Space Marine 2 and Titan Quest 2 are getting sequels.

Yeah, I do. I do want to see what TQ2 is like, love the OG game and the devs behind the sequel made Spellforce 3, which is great, but a new Ys always brings a smile to my face like nothing else. Shame the series is not more well known.

I highly doubt it - there are fewer and fewer legitimately good games every year.

There are maybe 3 games that i will be interested in purchasing.

Last really good year for me was 2015, where there were alot of very good games. Since then it has been a slow but steady decline.

It's funny how you go back a couple decades as see these lists of bangers. If I could time travel I would buy nearly half the games released that year.

Then you look at a list of the 1000+ games released in 2023; maybe 1% of them look even remotely interesting, and I bought:

Hogwart's Legacy
System Shock
Baldurs Gate 3 (actually in OCT 2020)
Jagged Alliance 3
Forza Motorsport (refunded)
Signalis

So far the only thing I'm looking forward to in 2024 is the new STALKER.

If a Final Fantasy IX remake actually gets announced, it could be one of them! Come oooon already SquareSooooft!

And if it does, presuming it isn't a disaster, it will be displaced behind the year the game actually releases.

The only game I'm looking forward to this year is FF7 Rebirth.... So it's a na dog from me.

Helldivers 2 is Boring AF feels like 3 dudes developed it in a garage....

I am looking forward to the Elden Ring DLC but a paid expansion to a old game isn't really what I would call exciting but hopefully it's Blood and Wine levels of awesome.

I highly doubt it - there are fewer and fewer legitimately good games every year.

Last really good year for me was 2015, where there were alot of very good games. Since then it has been a slow but steady decline.

Games have gotten to the point that anything with really high production values takes 3-5 years to develop we use to get awesome games every month or every couple months during the SNES/Genesis, PS1/Saturn/NG4, Xbox/PS2/Gamecube, and even the PS360 era as well as PC stuff during that whole time.... it's really gone to shite since probably 2013/14 a decade ago. Now there are probably 2-3 games that aren't meh and maybe 1 that is really good every year if we are lucky.

I still buy games that have interesting technology though even if they end up meh so I'm part of the problem I guess lol. My friends only play call of duty and similar games so even though they are meh I keep buying them because playing with friends is still fun even if the game is meh.

The only one for me that looks like it could be really interesting is dragons dogma 2. Then there are a couple of others that "might" be interesting - the last of us part 2 and other playstation titles.

It looked wonderful! (But needed some adjustments in my opinion.)

It was just a love letter of sorts though, and it's not going to be anything more (official nor unofficial).

Basically everything else from that nVidia leak years ago happened in one way or another, so... I'm holding my hopes high a remake for Final Fantasy IX does. The games from the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 era, especially the former that used 2D assets for backgrounds like Resident Evil and Final Fantasy games, are arguably the ones that have aged the worse visually (stuff before that era was largely just pixel stuff that sort of works still on higher definition screens, and stuff after that era still looks good enough), so I think it warrants it. It's also one of the only two. if not the only. main line title(s) that hasn't received any sort of remake, remaster, nothing. And in recent years it's gotten a lot of love from the community, compared to originally being underrated and the lowest sold of the PlayStation trilogy originally. I'm going to keep dreaming on it, darn it! If it doesn't end up happening, well then it was never going to otherwise so nothing lost I guess?

I totally get where you're coming from. It's hard to find games that really get you hyped these days. FF7 Rebirth - that's one I've been eagerly waiting for. The nostalgia factor alone is enough to get me excited. I'm crossing my fingers for something epic, like Blood and Wine levels of awesome.
