Wow, that's quite impressive. Hopefully mining will be dead by the time any top tier Maxwell comes out, otherwise they'll get snapped up en masse by people making money while doing sweet FA. Ah, the modern world of doing nothing for something - that is mining.

Watch out, I pointed this out in another forum, and all the miners will pile in calling everyone else whiners. I thought BTC sounded nifty until I realized that it's just burning electrical capacity as a scare resource. We really don't want to play that game.

I'd love for Nvidia to take the crown so the miners can buy those cards instead, thus resulting in drastic drops in price of the AMD cards, and then I can finally get my second 290 at a nice price :D

Maybe, maybe not.

Now I understand why Nvidia priced the card so high.

What do you mean by that? A business has to be in the business of making money or they go bankrupt. Nvidia has been more transparent in their attempts to capitalize on an advantage though.

then finally the tables will turn and we can blame nvidia for being a "terrible company" blah blah some how tie it to mining via smoke and mirrors like the nvidia club here on TPU did to people that own AMD cards. Glad I moved to AMD. Wouldnt want to be part of that club when this whole thing started. Amazing what this kind of stuff brings out of the woodwork.

Visa has thousands of servers that process transactions. That is just visa. Imagine all the banks. All mining does is distribute it and make it public. For those who don't know, mining is the way the cryptocurrencies process transactions.

On topic. As a gamer and a miner I find nvidea's maxwell drool worthy. That 750ti is one nice piece of low end hardware. I can't wait to see what they can do in a 200w envelope. If nvidea can have performance/watt they will take over mining.

I mean NVIDIA will do everything to attract those mining users to buy NVIDIA cards and get their money.

I doubt that huge performance increase was achieved by "luck", they had that issue in mind, of course... But the opposite is still possible, I'm just throwing my opinion.

Chart doesn't make sense at all. The obvious one is he is pricing the 260X at the same price the 750 TI $165. You can find them as low as $109 & about $129 average which just throws the argument out the window. He can pay off a 260X system faster then he would the 750 Ti system he uses as example.

Did he find a 6 PCI-E x16 slot board for his system comparison? I want one to run 6xSLI or Six-Fire. Hes not going to get as high of a through put on those cards using risers.

I'm sure its a good thing if Nvidia takes some miners so there already high entry price can be even higher. :banghead:

Prices are naturally all over the place now, so second graph is more accurate one (although increased power usage of OC-ed 750 Ti is not taken into account, only TDP).

I hope that they do perform well at BTC/LTC because that will probably lower the cost of AMD cards if there is some competition from the green side. Then again, miners buy everything in sight so its likely to just make everything super expensive. Glad I built my latest rig in 2013...

Christ, at this point, NVidia and AMD should just release SKUs of cards specifically for mining, and price them through the roof, and leave the rest of the cards for gamers to buy, and not have to go donate a kidney and a few limbs to be able to afford them, and be able to play their games.

Heh, I'm taking something different away from that article... I know the guy who made those litecoin/bitcoin keychains, and he owns the rights to the photo. I wonder if they actually asked him if they could use it in their article? I'm betting since it was only released about a month or so ago (when he sold a small batch of them, he's since been absent), that they didn't.

Just a funny thought.

Watch out, I pointed this out in another forum, and all the miners will pile in calling everyone else whiners. I thought BTC sounded nifty until I realized that it's just burning electrical capacity as a scare resource. We really don't want to play that game.

I'm a miner, and even I find this silly. It's why I mine for dollars, not currency that ultimately if mining REALLY caught on, could doom the planet.

Great now every things going be inflated.

I find it hillarious that everyone keeps saying that here, and yet it took me nearly 2 days to sell a ASUS Matrix 7970 Ghz Edition for only around 300 bucks... I mean god damn I thought you guys would bop me over the head for it the way you talk, lol.

The most gpu's I have seen on a system is 8, with the msi big bang. Risers will not make you lose performance. It would in games, but mining does not need the bandwidth. My mining cards which are with out a riser get the same as those with risers. They have to run linux to use that many gpu's too because windows won't recognize that many.

Christ, at this point, NVidia and AMD should just release SKUs of cards specifically for mining, and price them through the roof, and leave the rest of the cards for gamers to buy, and not have to go donate a kidney and a few limbs to be able to afford them, and be able to play their games.
This would be great actually. I wonder how they would do it. I am not an engineer in any way. They just need a card with lower power usage and high integer compute performance.

That's what they tell you. But how many of us can prove?

I wouldn't trust. We're all talking about humans here.

And I wouldn't be surprised if that processing power is being used to a completely different cause...

Actually the best thing to happen will be new ASIC's coming out and making the GPU segment unprofitable for either company.
