Heres my opinion.

Around the launch of the PS3 I went out and got myself a 360 - mainly due to the money burning in my pocket, but hey. IMMEDIATELY felt guilty (in a dirty way ;)) and saved up hard for a PS3 - and got one 3 days after launch.

Now within a few months I then sold my 360 on as I didnt like it in comparison to the PS3 - I wanted to play with my mates online but didnt want another £50 out my pocket, and the PS3 just felt more grown up and refined. Now to date I have 6 PS3 games, and of those 6 I have completed 3. Not many games at all kyle? Why? Well, enter my addiction to the world of PC's.

Went to a friends house and he had just finished building his gaming PC - an antec 900, a 4600+ X2, an 8800GTS 640MB Superclocked card, and I was just stunned at how good PC's were - up to that point I had a basic internet surfing, word typing rig that ran CS:S at 13fps . . .

Enter birthday money, this forum + minerals of steel.

And here we are today - If you ask me, apart from racing games, the PC always wins - a keyboard and mouse beat any pad, games are cheaper on the PC, and so on. Besides then having a powerful gaming machine, you have a platform for internet browsing, media storage, a setup that can handle all aspects of your work life, a way to keep in touch with people instantly - the consoles have a few of these things, but not to the calibre a PC does.

Can a console play crysis? No. Can a console be on the internet, listening to music, on an instant messenger and be playing a game all at once? No. Can you customize a console in the way you can a PC? nope.

Just my 2 cents.

Well Crysis can run on todays Consoles with some modding of the engine.(would still looks nice tho)

Its getting really vague distinguishing between consoles and PC's interms of gaming as time goes on. But as i said way above, just depends what you do, if were talking only gaming, PC can tend to be expensive,in which sometime you can't experience a game the way its intended, you pretty much always need to pray the engine is going to be nice to your hardware. While Consoles will normally play the way as advertised, but there games are a bit more expensive and are generally less powerful. It also depends on the game being played as i would never play TF2 on the consoles, but i prefer games like GTA and SR2 on Consoles as the PC version in normally the crappy version in the mix since they always port it wrongly.

Well, this is true. PC gaming is always more expensive than consoles, but the quality of gameplay is so much better on a PC. Remember that most people do not buy a computer just for gaming, and they add on later components to make it more suitable for gaming. Plus theres the whole social aspect, you can sit around drinking beers and play madden all day on your xbox with your boys, or sit in your room in the dark playing call of duty 4 on your comp with a headset on...yeah..not very "cool"

Mice/Keyboard are just so much more intuitive than a controller, i cant stand a controller personally, i would consider gaming on a console if i could hook up a mouse/keyboard combo.

Huh? lol !!

NO, the PC is a essential piece of life for most now, and with the processing power available it makes sence to develop games for it, however withthe rate of piracy we should continue to expect only ports and mediocre coded games for th emost part. Due as much to the piracy as to the console sucess.

I can just as easily pirate games for 360 and Wii. Not sure about PS3 tho, but still that shouldn't be a factor. These game developers are just whiny assholes. Especially Crytek.

Indeed I thought chipping your xbox360 would be complicated, all thats needed is a bios flash :wtf: Also you can't play mmorpg's on xbox I mean try playing eve online without a mouse never mind all the buttons. Also on consoles if a game lags on it (cod5) there is nothing you can do about it but with a pc you can overclock woot.

MMO's normally always suck on Consoles, and games don't lag as often on Consoles as they do PC.

Only as every 360 has the same hardware, and they use little tweaks to optomise them, as well as fewer visual effects.

About the piracy on consoles, the number of pirates on consoles VS PC are very few, compared to many. Lets not get into the piracy and DRM debate as it has laready been beaten to death, and at the end of the day it is the developers choice to make it happen or not. The same as it is our choice to buy it or not.

PCs will always be able to offer something consoles can't - versatility. Currently theres no console that can play games, surf the web, edit pictures, and write a shopping list on one unified platform. Enter PC. I could go into a lot more detail, but I think you all get where I'm going with this.

Versatility is just a big word for porn.

I've noticed my xbox not only has inferior graphics (I like to sit and pick through the fine detail) but it does lag in alot of games.

But sometimes at the cost of paying more money just to not make it lag makes Consoles a better pick for some even if there a little visual differences.

As I said above that there aren't small differences. For starters on a pc the image isn't upscaled and aliased and in need of a little AF loving. Also textures are horrible and smoke effects. What is done nicely though is physics and  stuff. I watched my pal play killzone 2 and thought meh the graphics aren't even acceptable if it came to pc.

Consoles remind PC users that 30fps is just as smooth as 60 fps.

But fact is, when I played metal gear solid 4, I kept saying to myself how I wanted the damn game on PC because the frames couldn't keep up with its awesomeness :p It may have dropped <20 fps during 60% of the game

Still all depends on the rig at hand, you cant define a game on PC just on what it looks like on High with AA all the way up, Killzone 2 looks great compared to most mainstream PC's(not the Uber 1337 4870X2 i can spend $550 on the video card alone Pwnag3 rigs). Compared to what most can afford Consoles look great. Like i said before PC games mostly feed off of the games engines, if it'snot optimized at all you know for dam sure no AA will be happening on most rigs as they will be trying to tinker with the settings to make it run to there liking, Consoles may not look the absolute best in terms of graphics but they look darn close for a fraction of the price it would take for the video card to make it run as smooth as look somewhat better then the Consoles.

Tbh a decent gpu isn't that expensive. A gtx 260 can be had for £130. It can play everything on highest settings. I personally don't like how consoles have reduced graphics for people at school to say its the best thing since colour tv.

Agreed about the GTX 260 , i have seen some on Newegg for $179.:rockout:, Still depends on the game, obviously a GTX 260 is more powerful then the Consoles but still relies on what the engine does with the power. Also, as gaming isn't and shouldn't be about hardware that $179 could easily go to some games.

The FPS thing is a big factor for me. 30 is not playable to me. I always end up raging after playing PS3 since the fps is always low.

I do like PC tho, i just don't see whats so bad about Consoles, they look fine and there games have been great. Now there are those games i will never touch on Consoles, like when Doom 4 is out and Half Life 2 Episode Three*prays Episode Three will run the same as the first two EP's did*, they shall go straight to PC, and as a big TF2 fan i wouldn't dream getting it for a Console. Even with a 8600 GTS i still take the high road and push it for what it can do in games(even tho my QX6700 really helps:)), but Consoles are still fantastic for what they where made to do, play games.

movies are locked to lower fps because of the mastering software they use, if you ever see a show that has the same frames as your eyes 60 or so then its just a sign of it being a low budget movie lol

A steady 30 FPS is not playable?

Some ppl can't stand less than 60FPS, I know a few and to some extent are one myself.
Although this may not be the case here, he obviously has a higher FPS standard than console gamers (though they can't exactly help it).

Some ppl do actually play games 'worse' on lower-end systems believe it or not

Versatility is just a big word for porn.

Not at all. If people want porn its very easy to go buy a DVD or a magazine, or better yet hire a hooker for the night. The points I made were valid ones, not superficial ones :D
