Will the Athlon XP "Thorton" work in my mobo?

The XP-M is still the grand daddy IMO. My first was shit, barely did 2.3-2.4GHz @ 1.8v. My second was good though, 2.55GHz. From a Barton that was pretty decent.

You had to unlock the multi on yours? Mine was already unlocked. It goes up to about 16x on the board as well although the highest I've tried is 14.5 and it wouldn't post. :roll:

I think mine is a rare chip that didn't see the light of day in many places (2800+ Tbred clocked at 2.25GHz stock)

Since the announcement of the Athlon XP 2800+ some time ago, AMD has not been very forthcoming with the delivery of the product. Critics have called the Athlon XP 2800+ announcement as only a "paper" launch since AMD has problems delivering the product into the marketplace. Indeed, we also had problem getting ourselves this rare processor for testing purposes. Let's hope all this would change soon.

My bro's running an XP 2600+ T/bred. Stock of 2Ghz. Currently OC'd to 2.1Ghz with the stock HSF and AS5. Not great, but he doesn't do any serious gaming so it's not a problem lol.

Is it possible to OC on a non-OCable board? like mod the processor or something to get a higher FSB?

should i just obtain a OCable board?

I've got 2 Barton XP-M chips (2400 & 2500+), these chips kicked freaking ass. The highest I got was with the 2400+ which I got to 2.5GHz stable - can't remember the vCore as it was years ago. I originally bought my WC kit for it thinking I'd be able to get 2.6, 2.7 out of it.

Can't say I ever heard of anyone getting a Thorton core before. That's a pretty cool feat. Is the chip, red ceramic or green?

TBH, I don't know the color :eek:

I emailed a new PC shop, and I asked about the barton 2500+ and they replied sayin $48. Then I replied askin about the other ones and the T-bred is $40, and the Thorton is only $30 but a Palomino wasn't avaible. (The Palomino's are the second best IMO) I never dealt with a Thorton. Let's see how it goes

Try to grab a AN7, not the nicest looking board, but flash it with the latest BIOS and its quite the monster. Good alternatives would be a nf2 ultra infinity or a lanparty ultra b.
