I'll stay with the core2 quad (first step will be the replacing of Q6600 G0 with Q9550 E0 when the price go becomes "normal") for one more year. If the motherboard producers succeed to separate the core and memory voltage then probabbly I will go for core I7. But before that let see how the i7's really perform and let the motherboard producers to mature the PCB design.

There's a lot more AMD users that you'd think -- that's the money factor coming in there.
To be honest, though, that graph really shows about 60% of users choosing Intel -- either staying Core2, upgrading to i7, or upgrading to i7 later.

Wow. I honestly expected to see more logical and educated responses here. All I see are a bunch of fanboys and cheapskates. To put it plain and simple, I will go with the Core i7 in the future because it possesses the most processing power, it outperforms everything else in reality. I have absolutely nothing against AMD, but they just can't really compete right now. I edit high-definition video for a living, and I can't afford to go cheap or to go with "whatever brand I like more". AMD certainly has its place among the people here that never run any processing intensive programs and want to spend as little money as possible, but their processors aren't competitive right now and aren't all that likely to be in the near future. At least not in any market that I'm interested in.

AMD - Slower Choice
I want AMD to put pressure on the high end market for once. Or Intel will continue to charge whatever the market will bare. I want something as revolutionary as the X2 jump to come along.
AMD's X2 slapped intel while it was sleeping on the job. Then Intel has stayed in the performance lead since then. That is bad for competition for Intel to stay in the lead this long. Which is why they have gotten so expensive with the i7's. I am waiting on AMD's reply to the i7 so the price will drop on this i7 hardware. The jump in performance doesn't constitute the price yet.Jansku07

my personal thoughts so far - sure, I'd love to be able to move up to core i7 tech, but funds ATM dictate no possiblity. I'm not game for replacing a high-end mobo and good CPU for a while longer, just to jump on the new Intel arch (of which, I get the feeling is just a glorified re-hash of Core2). Besides, a quad by itself is more than enough for almost all apps out on the market, HT or not . . . any more is just bloated overkill, ATM.
I'd really like to see something definitively competitive from AMD, though - although I've never been much of an AMD fan, if they were able to offer a CPU that was roughly competitive with i7, I'd be willing to head their way to help them out. Nothing a little OCing can't even the score with.

From what I've seen, I may sell my DFI x48 and q9550 and give the Phenom II a shot in late January, and skip I7 for awhile. I've been with Intel for 2 years after being with AMD for 3 years before that. I'm ready for a change, and I'm really routing for AMD. I'd hate to see them fail again. That would only hurt consumers.
So, Intel made a Barcelona like CPU, called it i7 and declare itself the most innovative IT company, deserving high premium price.
Hopefully there are bunch of overclockers out there to test this CPU for us. If it is so great I will buy one when it hit 150$.

Depending on the the pricing and how much performance you gain from overclocking on the Phenom II, AMD might be the way to go. I was just thinking, do you really need to performance of I7 if you don't have a multi gpu setup?
