Win10 updates

Which Windows updates in 8.1 where the gateway to installing Win10? I've ALWAYS had update as a "check but let me decide" basis however I woke up to this.

With a bunch more (even AMD 7900 drivers, like wtf)

I'm trying to avoid the Win10 shitfest but good lord what has Microsoft done.

The initial one was KB3035583 to get the Get Windows 10 app (GWX). Though that particular update is probably pages upon dozens of pages down the list by now.

GWX has been nuked off my ssd since i had a new install.

There is also KB3038314 that will also GWX. And there is a more recent one, a couple months old.

You may have to read the description for each. It's what I used to do. Any one that sounds lime it.prepares you for update, or anything similar, put on "hide".

Just a thought...upgrade to 10 then downgrade to 8.1. I did it with 7 and it was pretty quick and easy. I didn't do it to stay with 7. It was during the pre-release Insider Preview only period. I can't even remember exactly why. IIRC it was broke, and I needed a working PC for the moment. Anyhow, I went straight back to 10. Been there ever since. BTW, have you even tried 10? Or are you totally sure you don't want it because you already have?

It took me forever to get used to 8.1 after being with 7 and I really don't care for DX12 since it's a POS right now. If Win10+DX12 kicked in instantly with my SLI then I'd be on the bandwagon but it's not worth it imho since there's really nothing I need in Win10.

Also my mother's laptop has Win10 and that right there has so much sh*t wrong with it and the poor thing is used for word processing and printing stuff.

I have no issue so far with 10 64bit...............I can't tell the difference really(from 7 64bit).

Other than privacy issues, overall win10 is better that 8.1 metro crap

After reading this thread I checked mine and the original KB 3035583 was back despite being deleted and hidden. I also had to remove another 4 or 5 relevant to Windows 7.
I also noticed Microsoft had snuck in telemetry similar to the spyware in Windows 10 that reports back to base for W7 and W8 users in the form of kb3068708, 3075249 and kb3080149.

This update went from optional to recommended, in seven. They say its enabling secure boot on Asus boards, with Windows 7 which causes them not to boot after wards......

the link in my sig for W10 has an update tool (WUMT) that also works in Win 7. You can disable windows update and manually control it.
