Microsoft's Windows 7 operating system was supposed to reach the release-to-manufacture development stage around July 13, a build largely squared off as the final product of its development team before being sent for mass-production. Earlier this week, news from sources claimed another pre-production build (number 7600) as the RTM version due to its timing of a leak to sections of the internet. As it turned out, the build was not the RTM, though as indicated by the jump in build number, included a host of changes.

Microsoft further advises the community to wait for an official announcement from the company before taking any more pre-release versions to be the RTM, as was the case with build 7600. Expect the RTM to be out in the second half of July, and a confirmation from Microsoft when that happens. In related news, Microsoft indicated that the retail packages for all variants of Windows 7 will pack both 32-bit and 64-bit DVDs of the OS, as was the case with Windows Vista Ultimate. This leaves consumers the convenience of having to pick just one sub-variant.

Also, so how long are we going to have to wait?

And is Microsoft actually suggesting they are aware that everyone is torrenting their OS?

second half could be anywhere between 16th and 31st.

Correct. Follow the source, that was talked about. They used the usual "leaked copies may have malware" argument.

    lulz-
So they took it back down just to fix some stuff that was messed up. At least their customer support is good on that mark. :toast:

MS knows people pirate windows, Infact they have said more then once they would rather somebody pirate windows then use another OS like linux.

In-fact I think at times MS leaks their own os's without a key so that people will download and use it, then hopefully buy it since they think their countermeasures will actually stop a determined pirate(rofl?)

Fact is I wont be buying a copy of windows anytime soon, Its better to just get yourself technet and have access to ALL MS software rather then buying their OS on its own.

ms will GIVE AWAY any current OS you want at events, but there are other ways, check the mydigital life forums for examples, I have a legit copy/key of 2k8, but got sick of re-activation hassles, so I found a workaround that has no boot time hit ;)

    This Delay was inevitable...

I'm going to stick with 7100 till can get a proper copy.

Considering im a student and get a free key for Server 2008... I might give that a go one day.

wait.... is this saying that the people you already bought the pre-ordered 7600 version of Win7 are getting an OS with unfixed issues or bugs?

Did you "buy" build 7600? If so, ask your money back. If you pre-ordered your copy, you will get the final version of it, whether it's OEM/OEI or retail.
    t77snapshot says thanks.

Ah, I see. Because you want to upload it to torrent sites for the rest of us. I mean, why else would anyone buy a Microsoft OS? Heroic work.

I doubt they think their countermeasures stops a "real" pirate, it's aimed more at regular joe who either gets scared or gets tired of the popups and delays and the lockout of their pc that they buy it.

I don't hear the feds knocking on my door. Besides, torrents aren't illegal. They'd have to look into my hard drive to prove that I did something wrong. Don't be ignorant.. it's not going to give you comfort in the end.

What topic? You don't even tell us when it's been delayed to. What else are we supposed to discuss?

Learn to read. It said second half of this month. If there's nothing left to discuss, don't.
