This is a long story. IT starts with me copying my steam folder from my desktop to my laptop hdd by using sata cables and power to hook it up with the desktop. No problems as i have done this before.

    NOPE.

someone must have interfered and now it went all poop and didnt post from then. Not to worry though because the first thing i did after i got it a few months ago is run the samsung recovery thing which made an image on the hdd itself, and i did one image on my desktop somewhere. The only problem was that was windows 8 and i had already started upgraded to windows 8.1.

So i recover from the image already on the device by using some UEFI samsung shiznit that worked well and dandy. OS booted and worked no problem.

But we all know how much of a poop Windows 8 is so i thought ok its time to upgrade it to windows 8.

Pretty simple, or so i thought. Just had to install the KB2701398 update.

    WRONG>
    it wont update at all.

    so i went and refreshed.
Still wouldnt download that particular update. I say download because it refuses to start downloading.

So i thought, okay, myabe i need some other update before this. So i select all the updates and do them, but they keep installing and restarting. And go on till i go down to around 22 updates from 96updates that there were.

But now it just refuses to do the update.

All the updates till now werent smooth either. after each batch it would do i would have to run trouble shooter to make it fix some weird random crap. Without whcih the updater gives codes like 80080008 etc.(googled them up said it was firewall issue but i had disabled it already so...)..

    So now what to do.

UPDATE: it failed an update. but it wanted to reboot and now its suck at "preparing to configure windows"

UPDATE 2: restarting a couple of times un-stuck it. it posted

Do not download all the updates at once as it does nothing but mess up lol (Well it does for me anyway)

Am sure i told you this on steam before :p

It has always hanged and crashed for me everythime i try doing them all at once, I find it best to do 2 or 3 of the bigger updates first untill i am offered the 8.1 update.

p.s sent you a pm on FB

did download the updater. it fails to install.

something seriously wrong here. i might try recovering the image on the desktop

I have had update problems with windows 8 on multiple installs. windows downloads updates after without saying anything, and it blocks the windows update service. I waited 30-40 minutes and restarted, and there were updates there to install.

windows has to process the downloaded update and it takes awhile, so don't think it is not doing anything just because internet is inactive, as i did.

I just waited, both times, and it fixed itself. not exactly the same problem but worth mentioning i thought.

    Fixed your error. :p

In all seriousness I support at least 30 Windows 8 machines at work and they all install updates just fine.
    Time to reinstall.

Oh...I didn't take you for a sleaze at first.

last one says I don't have sufficient priviledges to modify windows file or registry. well.. I will say that is the main problem. I am already in as an admin account.

Doesn't Windows 8 have a higher admin account too, that's normally hidden?

    Anyway:

    This.

higher adoption rate of a an OS doesn't mean it's better. People just more used to Win7. And problems like that with updates is very annoying on any OS.

Erm yes it does actually, people arnt that stupid and the past is proof of that. Vista came out how many people moved to it over XP? sweet stuff all, why? because it was a terrible OS. Then W7 came out and it wasnt greeted very well because of Vista but again people tried it realized it was a good stable fast OS and they all moved to it, even people on XP finally jumped to 7. W8 is just another Vista and its getting scrapped by next yr, its not selling period, if it was a good OS people would move to it, but its not and the community is avoiding it like the plague, its just a fact. People move to an OS that works and is easy/user friendly to use, W8 is a step backwards and the public agree's. It doesnt matter if 10 000 people say Windows 8 is good the other 1 million say no it isnt, and I think I be putting my money where that 1 million are.

    erm, no it doesn't.

regardless, I was just pointing out how ridiculous your comment was. It's not healthy to get that worked up over software bud. I couldn't even read your last post it was rather stream-of-consciousness rant-like and i've seen enough w8 rant posts.

My stance on windows 8 is this.

The first release of windows 8 sucks i hate it and my pc hates it, Nothing i did would make it work right so i didn't bother with it for ages.

windows 8.1 update comes out and guess what? All my issues are gone.

Everything i use now works fine just like it did in windows 7.

Some things seem faster on windows 8.1 to but overall i have to say i am just as happy with 8.1 as i am with windows 7.

The only issue i have with windows 8 is the updates do tend to fail a lot if you try and do to many at once but i can only go on what happens my end, maybe others have no issues with doing all the updates at once.

agreed. as for updates I realized it's because they take a LOOONG time to unpack and install, and windows sometimes installs critical updates with no notification. so then if you try to do windows update at the same time it fails. my solution was to just wait 40~ mins or so and windows finished it's backround updates (again no notification) I went to restart and lo and behold it says update & restart. after that regular updates worked fine.
