Windows 8 or Windows 7 as OS for gaming laptop?

Hello.

I am not new, I am a member of old whose username got wiped out a few months back and since I registered here through an old work account, I wasn't able to recover my old log in details.

I have recently bought a gaming laptop (GT70 with Haswell and GTX780). It has come with Windows 8 pre-installed. So far, I really am not liking it at all. In addition to the layout that I dislike I am noticing lots more system hangs and weird glitches occurring than I ever did with Windows 7.

I have done a lot of reading and I am aware that Windows 8 offers certain performance benefits over Windows 7, especially for notebook/laptop users. I am also well aware of the human tendency to not like things that are different to what they are used to. However, I am seriously pondering whether to wipe Windows 8 and put a Windows 7 install in its place.

Perhaps some of you would care to chip in with your tuppence worth on W8/W7 issue. I am posting this here because I have been a member of this website for several years and I recognise the names whose opinion on matters can be trusted (and I know who many of the turds are as well).

thx.

Windows 8. It'll be better for battery life mostly. I think it does improve performance in games a little bit.

If you don't like the Win8 UI. Just download and use this.

I use W8 + Start8 on my laptop, but notice more bugs than when I was using W7.

I use W7 on my main rig for this reason. I don't mind windows 8, but will probably wait until the OS is more mature to migrate my main rig over.

I have already decided.

Windows 8 is making 2400GBP worth of brand spanking new laptop feel like a cheap tuppenny whore.

It is getting replaced with Windows 7.

It is not just the interface....it is everything. All the weirdness. All the strange retarded apps that want to hi-jack the running of my files. The fact that when I went to play an mp3 file, 'X-Box Music' took control, and I could find no way of turning the thing off except for through the task manager. And then there is all the system hangs, weird gltiches, the fact that my USB 3.0 ports dont recognise USB 3 devices....oh and the freezes and hangs.

My brand new laptop feels like it has been defiled. As though my new darling daughter has been fiddled with by Mr Gates in the baby ward and I am quite frankly disgusted.

My laptop must be cleansed, and it will be cleansed!

i know you've made up your mind, but i'll throw my two cents in anyways...

i've got a laptop now, i would say midrange gaming at the best of times....but it has win7 on it now.

i'm getting ready to blow it away and move towards win8, some in part because i'm starting to get used to it, partly because somethings are much better (i/o, multi-threaded, better kernel), and the last reason is 8.1 is coming out around the corner...

but i've been messing with win8 with my dell duo (the funky netbook that has a touch swivel screen) so i can try it as just a tablet and i can also play with a mouse and keyboard. those two together let me get comfortable with it, and now i like some parts better than win7...

and with that point, i'm going to be like the previous response and my main workstation at work is going to stay win7 but my laptops are all moving towards win8 now.
