Windows 8 update causing bootloops

Keep getting a BSOD with one of the 96 updates I install. I installed a new copy of Windows 8 and it wouldn't let me update to W8.1 until I download all the updates and when I do it doesn't boot anymore just loops between trying to troubleshoot and find the problem. I fixed it by booting in safe mode but when I get back into normal mode all my desktop is blank. Files are still there in Program Files though...

anyone know a way of installing Windows 8.1 without doing the updates first and then downloading through the Windows Store?

I apologise if this has already been posted, I googled and I found this so I'm thinking it's the same problem

Another TPU user made this simple guide, should we ever have a dedicated Windows section of this forum, this thread should be stickied. Might help you to get to Windows 8.1 without issues.

If you're getting boot loops, check Event logs, open command line, run chkdsk, if passes, run SFC /scannow and make sure you don't have corruptions causing you grief. I've rarely seen these issues unless it was on a Lenovo part with their bloatware...something about it limits updates to only be successful 15 at a time...Win 7 and 8.
