Crazy as it sounds...Bootup time is greater if you have memory errors.
I installed a 2nd hand pair of Ballistix, and one of the 1Gb sticks I later learned generated hundreds of errors (using Memtest).
Using that same error prone stick, FEAR would consume over 1.2GB after loading.
Once I replaced the bad memory stick, W2K would boot twice as fast, and FEAR only consumed about 700Mb after loading.
