This is one of the most annoying problems, lol. I can not diagnose it.

My problem is that Windows Media Center starts freaking out depending on how long my computer is on. It starts to get jittery, the sound skips, and frame skips. It's like my TV Tuner (Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150) can not decode the instreaming TV fast enough. The frame skips even cause the computer to lock up for a moment. If I am typing, and it locks my comp up for a bit, I may have alot of same letters such as "letttttttttttters".

But, when I restart, which clears what is in RAM, the jitteryness goes away. I thought it was a heat problem, but that isn't it since it works just after a restart. :wtf:

It could be a memory leak, but I have 4gb of RAM, so no shortage there. But it has to be memory, since after a mem dump when you restart, it works fine for a certain amount of time. After a while, it starts to get jittery again. After I figured out it wasn't a heat problem, I tried memtest, and it passes with flying colors.

Not sure if it is my TV Tuner or just Vista x64 not being happy with it.

So any suggestions?

Thanks. :toast:

Hmmmm .....

Do you have Superfetch enabled/disabled? Try doing the opposite of what you have it set for currently. OR .....

EDIT: Move your pagefile to a different hard drive. Try those out and post back results! :)

I disabled the SuperFetch service, Ill see how that works.

With the pagefile, I only have one harddrive. Anyway my pagefile isn't used too much, especially since Vista has 4gb to use, lol.

Tried memtest and it passed fine, so it can't be the ram...hmm

Also, dont suspect its a virus. If it was a virus I would have many more problems than just Windows Media Center being jittery. Unless someone coded some really silly one

I want to say its a mem leak somewhere, since it gets progressively worse depending on how long my computer stays on.

It could be a failing tuner. Have you tried using the software that came w/ it for testing purposes?

Well, I guess Windows Media Center is up to date, really have no clue.

Hauppauge has no drivers for Vista x64. Vista does have a bank of drivers, so it uses its own for it.

Its been fine so far, I'll leave my comp on overnight, see how messed up Windows Media Center gets, lol.

Edit: WinTV their software is horrible. It doesn't work quite well.

Disabling the SuperFetch service didn't fix it. :( It is still jittery. Any more suggestions?

@Solaris-Dude, between your dreams and your posts I'm really growing concerned about you!

On topic, I know you checked your mem, but it sounds like a leakage is occurring perhaps?

I have waited a bit, and it is still doing it. Now it does it whenever I just turn my PC on. :wtf:

It has to be a memory leak somewhere, but I just don't know where. This is quite frustrating. Any more suggestions?

Edit: Anyone know of any Windows based Open Source media center programs?

Try using the 64bit ffdshow software. A lot of codecs have problems with vista x64 media center. Something which took me a pain to solve yesterday.

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=173941

I used the experimental x64 build rev 1943 by clsid. You can then choose with ffdshow config to pick which codecs for ffdshow to decode in which pieces of software. For example, i didnt want coreavc to be replaced for H.264/AVC video within windows media player and so unchecked that.

Update:

fddshow didnt fix it. :(

What did fix it was I just reinstalled my graphics drivers. It seemed to be a problem with my graphics card actually rendering the incoming TV. Strange.

Oh well, thanks everyone.
