Ok I'm using Vista 32 on the rig in my system speccs under avatar. Recently I have been getting messages about being unable to update. I keep getting a 8007005 error. When I look it up on microsofts site I can never find the exact one I get, but quite a few with the same number and a few added letters or numbers. since I wasn't able to get sp1 via windows update I downloaded it and tried to install it. I get a 0x8007005 error. I'm doing all this from the admin account so it can't be any permissions type error. I did a memory scan and 0 errors were found. I also did a system file check where resource protection found some corrupt files, but was unable to fix all of them. Sans doing a reformat and installing again I can't for the life of me figure out what is wrong. Anyone have anything similar happen to them?

How about a system restore? Do you have any recent ones you can revert to before this started happening?

Nope sadly. The install I'm running on now is pretty new. only a few months old. Its the 2nd time I've installed vista. I did a re-install cause the first time I accidently selected upgrade instead of clean install. Only thing I can guess would work would be the original restore from when I first installed. Not sure how that would affect my current setup though.

Well, if you have to revert back to the initial install, you might as well do a fresh install. Windows should set up a restore point every time you install something new, or at least close. Sorry, I can't tell whats going on there, best I can tell some installation files are corrupted in windows. Maybe someone else does, or you could try microsoft support, although I wouldn't expect too much from them.

I wanted to wait till I got the x64disc before I did another re-install. Wish x64 was on my retail disc. Stupid $10 shipping charge for a disc. I guess I'll just wait it out then. Man this sucks.

Go on google, and type in the error code, and have a look around: My vista installation screwed up on its updates with an error 888023 or something, then I found a fix for it on the internet, then I got another error code, and there was a fix for that as well!
Google is your friend. :)

I've tried that before. I ended up with a lot of dead ends. There were only 2 things I found that from what other ppl said worked. The first being downloading a tool kit and doing registry changes. The page where I found this also had quite a few ppl saying it would just make my system unstable from the registry changes it needs. The 2nd method is to just use my retail disc and just do a in place upgrade over the current install. Which would be a nightmare with all the stuff I would have to re-install and configure. This sucks.
