Once we get by all the manufacture ads I am finally lead to the games main menu. This is where some things started bothering me. The title screen was very underwhelming and the graphic options leave very little to be adjusted.
I very much agree there. The main menu kind of reminded me a bit of MOHPA except MOHPA, the scene was interactive (click on a map to start a campaign, click on the radio to look at goodies, etc.). Wolfensteins main menu looked like a rush job but, as they say, never judge a book by its cover. XD
I like how the game feels once all the controls are chimed in and autoaim disabled. It is very natural which is important for a FPS. It reminds me a lot of Nightfire in many ways.

It was everything in my power to stay on track and not start cracking jokes about the game and such. I was trying to be somewhat professional. However I think if you were more interested in the game you may have not gotten bored. Maybe if it was about L4D2?
Because yes this is about World War 2 and the ultimate bad guys "Nazis" but its not meant to be serious. Just think B-movie when you play the game. It will make more sense to you.
More like if WW2 dragged on for another 10-15 years. Pretty much everything about it is fictitious except the German language that pops up quite frequently.
In terms of locations, it is similar to Turning Point: Fall of Liberty (ends the same...). The plot reminded me strikingly of Freedom Force vs The 3rd Reich. Substitute the "chaotic forces" with "Black Sun" and the "Freedom Force" with "the resistance" and it is an almost exact match. Even then, there was some twists that surprised me in the plot so it's all good...
I agree about the character animations and would add AI to that. The AI almost always got behind cover and as a result, were a pain in the ass to kill (at least quickly).
Hearing the Nazi's yell "spy" over and over and over and over and over and over again got VERY annoying. Why not say "ENEMY!" or "TARGET!" or whatever. They called me a spy so much, I want to punch them. Partly because a one-man-army is hardly a spy--he's a commando. Spies are infiltrators. They go in, rob you of intelligence, and escape without a trace. The guns only come out when their cover is blown and well, good chance they'll end up dead. Guns, for spies, are the last resort.
The default controls suck and whatever you set walk to is also "up" in the menu. I like to use my mouse for walking so whenever I click on a menu item the damn selection moves up.
There's your problem. Mouse is for navigating menus and looking/aiming around. I had no problems except for being unable to reassign the tab functionality.
Can't say I'd say the same. There's an awkward bob moving while ducked (rather realistic and at the same time somewhat annoying) but I didn't see anything out of the ordinary otherwise.
The game itself has a free flow system which makes the game kinda unilinear. You can pick and choose where you want to go and what missions you want to complete. Kinda like Far Cry 2 but you are confined to one city. Once you accept a mission from a plot member they mark it on your map and you make your way across town to the mission. Usually there is a truck there waiting to take you to a remote location not in the city. Dig Sites, Churches and such.
Once you complete the level you go back to one of the bases and pick up some plot twists and on to the next mission. I know it sounds repetitive but its not. Raven did a good job keeping things interesting. One thing they did is added a weapon perk system. All the gold you find along with missions get you money. You can use this money to buy most anything you want for your gun collection. Drum magazines, bayonets etc. Its a small feature but it does in fact add to the game. I like it as an addition to the Wolfenstein series.
It is most similar to Freedom Fighters. The maps aren't open at all (broken up like Thief 3: Deadly Shadows, in fact) but the the plot branches from linear into three (two are primary, one is optional) and then back into one.
It can be a truck or just a door. It will say "[action key] to [area]" warning you interacting with the object/door will trigger a map transition.
I agree on your second paragraph. It is not repetitive which is a major achievement for an FPS. I also especially love the upgrade system. The upgrades, unlike a lot of other games, really add a lot to the gameplay but, it is kind of annoying having to search/keep an eye out for gold.
I don't play multiplayer...
I agree on the conclusion. As far as a thoroughbred FPS can go, this is about as good as it can get. It is a welcome evolution of the genre and focuses on what is most important: slaughtering antagonists.
@BazookaJoe: I disagree. Many times I got caught in a situation I wasn't prepared for (namely giant rooms with catwalks all over the place) where the enemy was quickly beating me down. I think I actually only died once but damn there was a lot of close calls. Also, I had no problem getting headshots, neck shots (*gurgle*), nut shots, and pretty much every other conceivable *shot with the auto aim off. I liked the aiming mechanics a lot because it is very similar to Nightfire (fav FPS).
mailman i have to admit it was a good review i like the fact your welcome to friendly feedback
do some more game reviews your good at them i think things like grammar will improve over time its just getting the basics down at first and you did that
usually i play a game at a mates or the demo most games i get a cheapo even the popular or good titles lets just say im a tightwod lol
Cool, nice review btw, I said it was a good game I completed it a few days ago and have moved onto Batman - Arkham Asylum (which is one of the best games Ive ever played!)
For me it's a nostalgia thing, and it's mindless fun! Mostly what I use games for.... and the graphics with enforced aa are much better than the original!
This game brings me back to the original Medal of Honor game, I'm really having a lot of fun so far. I enjoy the intelligence you have to collect and how its stamped and looks like official old documents. Now if they had those old war rooms as menu's and a screen that showed where you shot everyone it would feel complete.
Nice review. Pretty much the same impression that I got from Quake Con. It looks like a classic style shooter that is meant to be fun, not ground breaking. I can't wait to pick it up, it should be in the $39.99 range very soon.
The game itself is not all that bad, just a straight line story. Weapon upgrades make it a bit better. I am running the game on a pretty slow computer and it runs very well. (All high settings). Was it worth the $50? I would have to say no. Multiplayer I have not tried yet, but I heard it sucks. The campaign is fun to a point. I am about 60% of the way through fighting the giant antlion boss with AA guns. Overall, I am not amazingly disappointed, nor extremely happy with the result.
