Hi all, im running the following:

AMD Athlon X2 250 (3ghz) budget cpu
AM3+ Mobo
4GB Memory
Sapphire HD6850 Card

I run on fairly medium settings in Guild Wars 2 and average 20-30FPS in high load areas.

I think my CPU is bottlenecking my GPU, anyways a friend of my wants to sell me his Phenom II X4 965 BE cpu for cheap but my question is:

Would i see much of an increase in FPS from the jump? I know the Phenom is a much better cpu than the Athlon X2 but is it worth me spending $$ on it.

Im on a budget so i can only afford a new cpu and not go all out with an Intel CPU + Mobo combo.

Thank you

The short answer is yes. But unfortunately AMD sucks again in this game:

Basically you'll have to overclock to catch up:

i have my 965 OCed on a cheap mobo to 3.9 and its full on stable. but yes you will notice the difference, i once had the 255, then upgraded to the 965 best investment for the budget build i currently have

From what I recall I remember reading Guild Wars 2 is poorly coded so it is CPU bound rather than GPU bound. So in a nutshell, Yeah, 965 would be a huge improvement. 250 is a budget CPU which is good value for money and is extremely efficent energy wise, but isn't that good when its part of a gaming rig.

Get a good aircooler and overclock the 965. Overclocking to 4.0ghz and beyond is not uncommon on these chips.

Go for it, you haven't got anything to lose :)
