Quick question here, my xfx 8800 gs will arrive on Monday and i was wondering if i can oc it to the xfx 8800 gs XXX clock speeds right away since they are both the same cards...is that safe to do ? to go from 580/700 to 680/800 right away instead of increasing the core and mem by 5mhz each time.

not a good idea to push that fast. Go 15 to 20 on GPU and 5 to 10 on memory,..

i would go slower myself. but chances are you can be sure about it. perhaps use wider increments if you're in a hurry.

which is coming from someone who clocked his evga 8800GS from 550 to 580 right out of the box lol. a week later i figured to take it to the evga "Superclocked" level and clocked it to 650/1700/1900 all at once (omg) from 580/1400/1600. i'm pretty sure the shader clock was right around there before overclocking. i link it to the core so w/e

yup so i'm one to talk, right....

anyway the cards overclock really well. a quick look around the net shows that. i think the evga is limited to under 700mhz core for some reason. read about it somewhere

EDIT: the XFX card is LOUD. can't adjust the fan. so i hope your case is loud, too. or you don't keep the pc running at all times and are nearby if you have a quiet pc. change the fan or somethin'....

even if you have a bunch of noisy fans already this will whirl over them. i had one so i know

haha noise won't be an issue :). sweet ill probably just go in small to medium increments and know that it is safe since the XXX is stable.

How long did it take you to take it up to 850 mhz? Is it stable? How much are you pushing on the memory? your fps in css if you play it?

I started with 650gpu 800mem for about 6hr(Just bought crysis). Then 750gpu 900 memory again i was still playing crysis. Now im running 850gpu and 1100 mem. Gpu will top out at 950 but is not stable and gets hot. max setting for mem is 1100mhz stable @ this setting

Not sure how to post it here but there is the link

Those are some satisfying numbers. Do you think i will be stable(good temps and no artifacts) at 690 gpu/800 mhz on the mem right out of the box without increasing by 5 mhz increments?

Seems that 90% of the people with this card are getting 700+gpuz 800-1000+ mem easy so why not.
