I only ever used to play Football Manager on the PC so my graphics purchases have been few and far between. The jumps have been massive though when I have upgraded.

    MSI radeon 9500
    Sapphire radeon x1600
Sapphire x800 gto2( cant remember if that's correct but it unlocked to xt levels)
    MSI x1950 pro

    2x Visiontek 4850s
Currently undecided on if I should got r7950/7970/7990 or gtx 770/780/titan. The last two are just for bragging rights but realistically speaking it would probably take em off.

A list of chipsets and cards I used for a month and longer...

SiS 530, chipset on an Amptron 598-LMR motherboard. Super 7 system.

Ati Rage Pro II Turbo, was actually faster than the sis 530 in some games, like Team Apache, Tachyon, and a few others.

Intel i740 AGP 2x, yes a card not a chipset. It was my main card when i played Diablo II, Starcraft +broodwar, CS 1.6, Half Life, Shogo MAD, Tachyon, Septerra core... with an AMD K6-II 550mhz and 512mb pc133. 2005-2006.

Geforce 4 MX 440 AGP 8x 64MB, yep.. that whole thing was its name. Came in the rig i used my Jr and Snr years of high school. Athlon XP 2500+, 256mb DDR (eventually 1GB DDR400). Still played the same games with the addition of doom 3, HL2 and CS:S, Halo CE.

Radeon 7500... was a little faster than the MX 440 but still lacked shaders. same system

9600XT 256mb OC to 575mhz, the final gpu upgrade for the Athlon XP system. installed in 2006. Played FEAR pretty well, great performance improvement in HL2, Doom 3, allowed me to play CnC3. Was later moved over to my AsRock build, Pent. D 920, 2GB ddr2

8600GT 512mb. also used in the AsRock build. first taste of DX10, Lost Planet, Crysis. UT3 and CnC3 ran smoothly.

9600GT 512mb. Last card for the AsRock. Also upgraded to a Pentium Dual Core e5300 at 3.2ghz. Starcraft II, CoD WaW, Crysis greatly improved in perf. along with my other games, like HL2 ep1 and 2. 2008-2009ish. Later moved over to my Athlon II rig.

8800GT 512mb, 2011. same athlon system. Used until about 3 months ago. later the system was upgraded with a Phenom II. Most games i owned played at high pretty well.

7850 2GB with my current system. Plays all my games maxed out. I think the cpu is the limit now. Deus Ex, SCII HotS, Duke Nukem forever, Hard Reset, a few others.

    Geforce 2 MX 200
    Geforce 7600 GS
Powercolor X1950 Pro (it had a great Arctic Cooling cooler on it)
    GeCube ATI HD 2600 XT
EVGA GeForce 8600 GTS(died within warranty period, exchanged it with Sapphire ATI HD 3850)
    MSI GeForce 8800 GT
    Sapphire HD 5570 GDDR5(current videocard)
