I always wonder about hardware reliability and longevity. My Logitech Z680 is still kicking hard after 11 years, and I abuse the hell out of it.
My case is second at 9 followed closely by my power supply at 8. I do worry a little about my power supply age.

I've got 3 Sony SDM-S73/SDM-S74 monitors hooked up to my server in my basement. Bought one of them way back in April 2004(it cost $445 back then!).

My monitor is my current oldest hardware. I bought back in 2008. Still no dead pixels but it's a little more susceptible to temporary burn in. Last year before I won this keyboard from TPU I had been using a Sony OEM keyboard since 2002.

In daily use - that would be a couple of 24" Samsung LCDs I got at least 5 years ago. But the oldest that I still use from time to time is an orginal Roku player.

there's also the replay dvr that I use to record the surveillance cameras but it's rare that I actually have to look at the footage.

Software A lot.
Benchmark Scores Its fast. Enough.
somewhere I am sure a 9600XT still runs that I used to play HL and CS on.

Most of my old stuff died when I moved, but for awhile I had a dual CPU Pentium Pro Compaq server with travan and SCSI drives running NT, then early version of XP and then Debian. All my PC's before then.... a 550K6 went to England, Soyo board went to a friend.

Currently probably my Logitech surround speakers, or perhaps my 2TB backup drive, my older smaller SATA and one old IDE drive sit unused and waiting.

Probably the samsung 940 syncmaster. It's 1280x1024 and probably about 9 years old. Otherwise it's just the RAM and HDD in my case, at 5 years old.

Nokia 445Xi 21-Inch UXGA Color Monitor manufactured in 1998. It's been in constant use since it was made(even to write this post). You tell me why it's still working. And still working pretty good too. It does have a little bit of distortion at the very bottom of the screen, sometimes(or more truthfully usually, but it depends on how warm the tube is). It's still a great gaming monitor IMO. CRT RULES!!!:rockout:

  • General Features:
  • 21-inch CRT screen
  • 19.69-inch viewable image
  • .22 mm dot pitch
  • 2046 x 1536 max. resolution / 120 Hz max. refresh rate
  • 50 - 150 Hz vertical frequency
  • 30 - 102 kHz horizontal frequency
  • On-Screen Display (OSD) controls
  • Energy-star compliant
  • 15-pin VGA connector
  • Access Bus connector
  • Power Specifications:
  • 100-240V, 50/60Hz, 2.3, 1.1A
  • Regulatory Approvals:
  • UL
  • CSA
  • CE
  • TUV
Edit: I can't verify the year it was made, and I've only been using it for the last 12. So I've not personally been using it as long as I've been using my Nokia 445Xi. It's a Micron RT6856TW keyboard. Made by NMB. With "Made For Microsoft Windows 95" on the backside OEM label. So it's probably older than 1998.

Micron RT6856TW.JPG

Too bad my Ian Livingstone's DEATHTRAP Dungeon mouse pad from 1997 don't count as "hardware". :D

I've also been using some Altec Lansing ACS90 speakers for about 15 years that are approx. as old as both of those. But I can't verify the year on them either. And to save me having to unhook them, here's a google'd pic of some.

Two of the three hard drives in my computer have been run almost every day for the past 10 years. Both are Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM 250 GB in RAID0.

In terms of non-stop usage, my Netopia 3341 ADSL Gateway has been running since 2007. I also have a 320 GB Seagate hard drive that can claim the same title (its brother died in RAID1).

Lets see, we've got a 8 year old MX-518 (with no sign of wearing out), and a 7 year old Antec 1000Watt PSU, and both a 7 year old GA-EP45-UD3P w/ QX9650, all in at least weekly use on one system. I have a 7 year old Saitek Eclipse II keyboard in daily use on my system. It's finally starting to wear out, but thankfully I bought a backup a few years ago. Looks like that might be the max lifespan for that keyboard.

Also, the Paging file for the HTPC is on an 8 year old 80GB WD blue that is a refurb. It still keeps on ticking!

rtwjunkie...when you get tired of that Gigabyte board, I'll make a good home for it...:). I love those boards. Funny you mentioned the MX-518, my younger cousin I used to game with quite a bit. WAY back when he bought the MX-518 and liked it so much he bought another one just in case they stopped making them. The second one is still sitting new in the box. Those we're built very well. Makes me wish I wasn't a lefty.

I recently retired a HP P4 dc 5800 mt frankly because it was just a 'smidgeon' too slow. Still running an HP dc 7800 mt from 2007. It has an e8400 and we're still quite pleased with the performance. I installed an X25-M Intel SSD a few months ago, it's actually pretty snappy running Windows 8 on a 22" monitor.

Those older HP business units are real reliable. The elite series are my favorite and they literally give them away on eBay.

Best,

Liquid Cool

The Auzentech X-Fi Forte card I bought new I want to say around 2009 or 2008. Still runs well, still has the driver static bug from time-to-time...still sounds great. I have a lot of other old hardware, but not daily driven.

My dad has an old microscope camera that only works with WinXP (it has no drivers for anything more recent). It is hooked up to an old system with an Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard and an Opteron 180. We also have a backup Core 2 Duo system which was recently upgraded with an E6700 off ebay for the same use. A new high-quality microscope camera costs thousands of dollars at the very least, so it is cheaper to keep a pair of old, old rigs than to buy a new one.
