Performed Mods:
Installed additional fans, sleeved cables, a little cable management. It’s still not how I want it to be but considering I have 6 fans and 2 fan controllers it’s not too bad). Next on the list is to cut holes to route cables better, cut hole for PSU and invert, replace CPU Cooler with a 120 Extreme, and I am also thinking of replacing both Fan controllers with an Aerogate II. Once I get the opportunity to strip the case (I may have to buy another case for my gear to live in the meantime) and improve cable management I also plan to hit it with a coat of paint. My biggest ever mod (if you can call it that) is my car simulator. I scratch built it 7 years ago and it sat unused for many years. It’s fitted with its own sound system and seat shaker. I recently replaced the steering with a Logitech Momo wheel.
I am a long time reader of this forum and this is my first post (so go easy on me:)). She’s not the quickest beast going around but it serves a great purpose. My PC is connected into my Theater room and to my home made car simulator. As my projector can only display max res of 1024x768 I don’t need heaps of video power (the 7600GT works perfectly even with detail settings turned up). Having said that playing V8 Supercar3 on an 84” Screen is very cool. Constructive suggestions are welcomed

nice racing cockpit!
Thanks for the feedback.
It took me ages to research it and come up with my own design.
I have wasted many hours flying around race tracks in that thing, it's a heap of fun
by: SMACK900;508448What did you construct it out of?

Nice overall setup.
by: Wile E;508579Hi Wile,
What did you construct it out of?
The racing cockpit is constructed from MDF mainly 18mm. The cockpit is designed to split in 2 to make it easier to store. The base is fitted with HD fixed casters.
The hardest part was finding a good seat. Once I settled on the standard fiberglass racing seat I was then able to design the entire cockpit around it.
Very nice. Original. 9.
And scrap the 1 please.

Wow, that thing's gotta weigh a ton. lol.
I really like the setup, 8/10 from me.

It's not as heavy as it looks. The reason for the side cut outs was to reduce weight and the unit splits in 2. I can easily lift both the base and the nose on my own and moving the base is made even easier with the use of casters.
by: deodato;509174Thanks, I hope its original in a good way :)

When I first read your feedback I absolutely cracked up.
But you know what it's not a bad idea. I already have mains power wired into the cockpit so adding lights and other accessories is piss easy.
Anyone else got any further mod suggestions for my cockpit. What other goodies apart from neon lights under the cockpit would you add?
by: SMACK900;512969A windscreen? lol

Cup Holders!!!!
and maybe 2 10inch LCD monitors mounted to the frame to act like side mirrors so you'll have like a tri-monitor setup

by: Wile E;513092Nah, that would upset its aerodynamics .lol
A windscreen? lol

I imagine it would cost me a heap as I would need 2 video cards.
Having said that I cam across a site on the weekend that makes custom gauges and controls setups for racing cockpits.
All I will say is, WATCH THIS SPACE :)
You could get that fan setup from Razor and mount those on the dash! WIND!!!!!
by: erocker;519960If I do that then I would have to get a helmet too!!!!!!!!lol

My son absolutely loves it and for a 4 year old he is not to shabby behind the wheel.
Unfortunately he cant reach the pedals just yet which is a good thing otherwise I would never get him out of it :)
by: SMACK900;532058That's what you need, adjustable seat rails. lol
Thanks Niko,

you could get some of those rumble things that you hook up to car stereos that rumble the seats and tune them so u could get some realistic engine vibrations
by: Wile E;532540My pedals are on adjustable slides, I don't want to make my seat adjustable as then my son would be able to play in it by himself, can't have that then I won't get to play.....lol

great practice to a most wanted concept... 8/10 for the rig, 10/10 overall (inc. the red... rig)
here is an idea (if you can affort it): adapt electric "pistons" around your...racecar and use force feedback (joypad tech) to control them. And then race...

by: Batou1986;533362Yep, got one of those. seat shaker is fitted to the back of the seat with the amp sitting my my right side. I don't use it that often but it does give a good rumbling effect

by: SMACK900;558996instead of having the chair fixed to the frame you could have the pistons (electrical, kind of springs and damper parts) fixed to the frame and the chair on to them, by setting them up as a cross the concept is to make it work as a joystick in reverse action, meaning that when you turn the wheel to the right you 'll get a force feedback on the chair forcing it to an angle to the right... the idea is practicaly the same as it is used in coin-op arcade games... try... http://www.immersion.com/gaming/video_pc/next-gen/

Awesome idea although a I have a feeling to set something like that up means it will consume a heap of space in my already cramped room.
Thanks for the idea, I will look into though.
