The FireGL V8650 was an enthusiast-class professional graphics card by ATI, launched on August 6th, 2007. Built on the 80 nm process, and based on the R600 graphics processor, in its R600 V8650 variant, the card supports DirectX 10.0. Since FireGL V8650 does not support DirectX 11 or DirectX 12, it might not be able to run all the latest games. The R600 graphics processor is a large chip with a die area of 420 mm² and 720 million transistors. It features 320 shading units, 16 texture mapping units, and 16 ROPs. ATI has paired 2,048 MB GDDR4 memory with the FireGL V8650, which are connected using a 512-bit memory interface. The GPU is operating at a frequency of 688 MHz, memory is running at 868 MHz.
Being a dual-slot card, the ATI FireGL V8650 draws power from 1x 6-pin + 1x 8-pin power connector, with power draw not exactly known. Display outputs include: 2x DVI, 1x S-Video. FireGL V8650 is connected to the rest of the system using a PCI-Express 1.0 x16 interface. The card measures 254 mm in length, 111 mm in width, and features a dual-slot cooling solution. Its price at launch was 2799 US Dollars.
