Today, AMD announced a limited edition of the X2 6000+ which is rated at TDP of 89W. There is no physical differences between the 125W and 89W 90nm SOI processors, except the new labelling: ADA6000IAA6CZ. Both CPUs operate at 3.0GHz and have 2x 1MB L2 cache. The 89W edition operates 1.3v in contrast to 1.35V on the 125W version.

that is a decent wattage drop the only problem with these new releases is they are not AM3 compatible due to the on chip memory controller and no doubt a lot of people will be waiting for the Amd quad core chips which are backwards compatible to am2+ atleast.
seems like amd is improving some of its older processors to fall back on in the case that intel beats them in the quad core race..

Phenom will be compatible with AM2, AM2+, and AM3.
Lower watts, lower heat, I wonder if these OC better than the 125W ones.

I wonder if the 6400 will also get this upgrade. In the original unofficial news that the 6400 was coming, it said that it would have this lower TDP as well. It's an interesting prospect for those who can't wait for phenom. :)
I couldn't wait for Phenom lol...I love my 6000+. Even if it is the 125w version I was able to get it to 3.3 GHz on air.

Yeah because speedbinning makes chips incompatable with new chipsets... right jocksteeluk.
All this shows is that yeilds are improving on these new chips allowing for lower vcores and higher clock speeds.
