A little bit early if you ask me, but FUGGER from XtremeSystems has posted his new overclocking buddies: Intel D5400XS, 2x Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9775 CPUs @ 5586MHz (FSB: 399x14) and a duo of custom LN2 containers. Watch this thread for more results later today.

HOLY CRAP!!! I suddenly wish I had the money for 2 QX9775s and a Skulltrail board. FB-Dimms initially had me worried, but with an unlocked multi, who cares how high they clock? lol.
I know it's not so simple...
But that's like a 44,6GHz CPU Holly Crap!!!

firstly where did he get these stuff from? ES?
Interesting, the 5000x(and v/p) were thought to be limiting when overclocking 5000/5100/5200 series Xeons. The 5400 being able to go this high is quite interesting. However the limit is more likely in the FSB, I'd prefer to see an increased FSB, see what Seaburg is capable of.
by: btarunrfrom intel most likely, so they can show the public and and go :twitch: so they can make ppl want to buy it

So he doesn't own them? Has to return them to Intel?
by: btarunrMaybe if they survive. I'm sure intel will take the loss if they don't return!

i wonder what it runs in superpi lol
by: UnXpectedErrorThe same as any C2D at the same clock. SuperPI is single threaded.

Try Wprime instead.
wow, 14x multi....that's nuts
what'll be the stock multi on these chips?
what'll be the stock multi on these chips?
by: TUngsten3.2 stock as you can see on the screen. 400MHz FSB > 3200/400 = 8

ah, that's right- 1600fsb is standard for this chip
I had 1333 in my mind on first glance. Thanks for the math lesson.

SuperPi pisses me off. When will they make it multi-threaded? It seems to be getting pretty pointless these days. It's sort of like running a Quake2 timedemo on your system, then bragging that you run it at 999fps. Meh....
But skulltrail.... Haven't they been talking about this thing for a year now? And yet still nobody can buy one. The same thing pisses me off about concept cars. You're all excited because Ford has this godly new car coming out, but when it finally hits the shelves, you see something completely different and cut down--not even worth buying anymore.

by: BasardIt will be limited anyway, it's just a flagship for the marketing machine. "look at what we are capable of". People will buy a c2d/c2q when they see what Intel can do. It's how it works.

those are some awesome numbers! After looking around I see that the Intel D5400XS will be out sometime this month. Anyone have any info on when and how much?
by: DanTheBanjomanYes, chips are definatley starting to exceed the boards they're placed on. I don't feel the new boards we're expecting for mid 2008 are going to really let processors breathe. Yet...the Nehalem processor technology will force motherboards to be designed differently, and thus we may see complimentary boards to really let the chips stretch their legs.

from one newspost here, the cpus themselves are probably gonna be priced around $1400 USD (1399.99)
I am looking into pairing a skulltrail with 2 45nm procs with a 7 or 8 multi, Im shooting to get the board and the procs for 1k, give or take a few hundred. Then try to see what FSB speeds I could hit. I like the idea of the LGA775 cooling so I could use the water blocks I already have, I like that.
