According to a report written by the Taiwanese Digitimes website, Intel is planning to promote new SSD drives with its upcoming Centrino 2 platform (Montevina). Dubbed Intel High Perofmance SSD, Intel will place these SSDs mainly in enterprise, mid-range and high-end notebook offerings. First Intel will release two models - 2.5-inch Client X25-M and 1.8-inch Client X18-M. Both drives will boast 80GB capacity and SATA interface. The report goes on to say that Intel plans to increase storage capacities up to 160GB by the end of the fourth quarter, and up to 250GB and above in 2009.

I like how it looks like the sizes are starting to increase. At 160gb i think it would actually start to be useful, although 250gb would be preferred of course :)

I could get by with an 80gb. :D I don't have too many games, so space isn't much of an issue. I can always push music and such out on a home server, running in another room or closet.

The silence of these things is what I like most. :D

pr0n FTW :toast::laugh:

im betting there still gonna be expensive as hell even for 80gb. i wouldnt mind an "affordable" 36gb one like when raptors first came out, easy enough room for 8-10 games or as a windows drive with apps and programs. either way i still think its going to be too expensive this year and next for an ssd of 80Gb+

A pair of 250gb SSD's in raid0 would make me very happy.... thats about the point I would consider buying one, 80gb is just too small for my uses

perhaps this can explain the more recent drops in mechanical hard drives.

if people thought of these as an alternative to raptors, it'd make more sense. Very high speed drives with a few other bonuses (silent, more reliable, lower power use) - as long as they're vaguely competitive with a raptor, the pricing is fine for now.

and whats wrong with using these as the OS/games drive, and storing everything else on a mechanical drive? its not like you have to move ALL your HDDs over to SSD at the same time.

Dubbed Intel High Perofmance SSD,
Typo,

Otherwise, looks interesting. I see the SSD getting groundup on portables first, before performance can become keen.

Right now the supply does not meet the demand. Once the supply goes above that then you'll see prices drop.
