The 790i has some generic problems also such as data corruption and SLI freezing while 3D gaming. Maybe they don't have a fix, or DDR3 prices are still too expensive not attracting enough customers?
To me the board looks like a SLI version of the Max board... Not the color, but the layout with everything...

yep.. the same reason I did not acquire one...
most asus mobos out there have 2 versions of the same board, whether it be a ROG or a P5* etc.
Meh, it's just a PCB revision of the Striker II Formula with that EPU thingy thrown in.
All the NF 7x0 chipsets currently have a video corruption bug when used with nvidia cards. Only current solution is to use an OpenGL renderer like VLC. The longest thread on the EVGA boards currently has found no other solution. It annoys me because VLC won't play my wmv 1080p vids.

Well either AMD or Intel have the best chipset imho but only for crossfire no SLI, Nvidia need to sort the chipset probs they seem never ending, Cos im nearly ready for a new rig ( after a minor set back few weeks ago ) and Intel are looking the best for me.

Now I'm waiting for reviews and wondering why I went with this Formula; I hope the 4870 drivers make it worth the CF

Looks great. But that power saving sh*t is what I am staying away from. Also theres still no boards doing PCIe 2.0 16X yet.
