I'm not hard drive expert but I'm not sure how this would have much benefit at all. My hard drives always seem to be pretty cool anyway and they don't seem to generate much heat.

I think Raptors can get pretty hot.

These coolers honestly, are only needed if you're going to mount the HDD in places where there isnt any airflow...

Just get an Antec Nine Hundred case. Silent 120mm fans in front of the hard drive cages keep my Seagate Barracudas at 32C all day long.

My HDD idles no higher then 27C anyway so I'm alright.

i guess if you live in the desert one of these might be handy :P

but most probably theyre releasing it in hopes of making a slight bit of profit before SSD's completely remove the need for hdd coolers. if there even is a need now.

Or Antec 300, NZXT Tempest, Coolermaster Centurion 590, Thermaltake M9- Okay lets just say all those cases are Antec 900 Copies :laugh:

This cooler would fill a niche of the older cases where installing a cooler under the HDD is possible... with the tray mounting that is increasingly common making it impossible to install the HDD with the cooler. If those numbers are right this would go in a silencer's PC though :p. I'd happily chuck a HDD with that cooler inside a casing with that part exposed, and suspended in the 5'25 bay :)

Consider that single platter drives run bloody cool and don't really need much airflow to remain cool as well... looks like this cooler looks increasingly like a lemon :(



I like that 100mm fan, I think ill just buy this cooler for that fan :p

my thoughts exactly...im thinking its more just for aesthetic purposes.
as far as i know making your hard drive a little cooler isn't going to make it faster, but i could be wrong. but i could see where it would come in handy if you had bad airflow.

This looks like a cooler I could use in my COSMO 1000 case.:D

as has been said, these are only useful in a case with no HDD airflow - many old OEM systems were like that, but its very rare to find a modern case without some form of airflow over the HDD's

(that said, cheap $50 cases often have a single, useless 80mm intake only)

hmm now that i think about it that fan would be nice for some mods. maybe use it as a ram cooler or a video card cooler?

It would be rather ineffective in an older case with little to no airflow. I put something similar (made by Vantec) on a HDD inside a Dell Precision 340 case and it made no difference. There's no airflow in the case anyway and the fan was just blowing hot recycled air onto the HDD.

One of my computers uses an Antec900 case. Since it comes with 2 hdd cages and fans, i installed a 3rd cage with Fan ( custom fans ).

I made my own cage with fans and mounted 8 hdd's to the side, externally of the pc.
This way i can maximize the internal airflow for the cpu and gfx card while they arnt being effected by heat generated by the hdd's and vice versa.

Inside the Antec900, my hdd's range from 24C to 35C. Externally i have them sitting on 19C to 20C.

The Ita Kaze Hard Drive Cooler makes me want to rebuild a hdd rack and consider implementing one unit per drive in combination with my current design which could be less efficient.

totally useless in the most normal cases and PC setups, the only function i can see it doing is making the owner think he has a larger e-penis.........hence its an e-penis enlarger!

see these seem to take up a fair amount of space possible emliminating an extra hd space. meaning that the guy with the sever with 40hd's in it will only be able to fit 20 in there with these on it, and he'd be the one who needs it lol. fail

the only use i can see this for is shite cases with no HDD cooling whatsoever. Its a very niche product, as those users arent even aware of the poor cooling most of the time.

Maybe Skythe should concentrate on video card cooling? There's a huge market for that if they can make something original.
