Later this year, Intel will launch three models of processors based on a newer socket, a newer architecture. The processors are based on the Nehalem-derived Bloomfield core, and require a compatible motherboard with the 1366-pin land grid array (LGA) socket. There are three models lined up, one in each category of extreme, performance and mainstream. They carry the Core i7 brand name and here are its model numbers:

Findings show it's no all that better than current chips when it comes to gaming.
L2 cache 256KB - hmm I thought it was 512, strange. So it depends heavily on L3. 8MB wow. probably it can hold whole spreadsheet or access databases inside it he he.

It depends on the app, it's never as simple right now as saying one proc is faster than another. Games, being primarily gpu reliant, aren't very effected by changes in cpu's. I remember seeing Jr saying he noticed practically no difference in games when he moved from his celeron to his e8400. I don't think that argument should even matter though, or even be brought up, i7 is faster core for core, and has a number of architectural improvements, and in apps that use multiple threads effectively beats the snot out of any core 2. Now we need some official numbers and oc'ing results, then we'll have a real idea of just how good they are.

yep, i agree... ppl fail to acknowledge that i7 is a new architecture and it will perform totally different that core 2 even at the same speeds.

by: btarunrUsing my old P4 3000, it takes me 8 mins to convert a 210mb HDTV tp file to a 60mb using my divx convertor......I think the Nelly's will do it in under 2 mins.

I think I will keep my PC upgrading to a very minimum in the next few months, I'm fine with my Quad. Though, I hope this drops the prices on the 775 quads so I can pick a few up cheap to upgrade my dual rigs.
