According to GameIndustry.biz, Paul Oughton, Bethesda's publishing executive has been briefly discussing the companies plans in general, as well as indicating that the next Elder Scrolls title should be with us sometime in 2010. It was also interesting to note that despite Nintendo's success with it's home and handheld consoles, Bethesda had no interest in releasing their games on other platforms.

At the moment we've got Fallout 3 for this year and potentially there's a new Elder Scrolls title in 2010... [and] at the moment we're not that interested in the Wii. We're going to stick to PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. We'll continue to pursue three or four titles a year and go for big titles.

This is good news - I'd rather see them do it right than make a half assed game just to get some money.
Also i hope it's not a MMORPG

I doubt they'll release unfinished game... never did it until now... Bethesda owns :D
I also hope they remove quick travel option.... kinda ruined the experience i had from ES3:MWND... Morrowind is kinda better than Oblivion... only the graphics are obviously better than MWND

I played Oblivion and then went back to Morrowind. Morrowind just made me bored for the most part. The two things that make Oblivion infinitely better is the voice overs (next to no required reading) and a better stealth system. The thing I like the most about open-ended games is the ability to operate as you see fit. The more ways they facilitate in the game, the more entertain it is. I mean, you could play Oblivion with a sneaky approach one time, a beat everything over with a hammer another time, and throw fireballs the third time. I don't know how they could really add to that but if they could at least improve what was there in Oblivion, I would be happy.
Sweet. Oblivion came out in 2006 didn't it? That's a decent release cycle.
I like that you can mod stuff. You see a small handful of people complaining about Diablo 2's art direction, but when Oblivion came out people started modding anything they didn't like instead of throwing a fit. Now you can turn the game into anything you want it to be, so there are no complaints from anyone.

by: panchomanDon't think so. It would be their ruin, and it's not as if they need it. With the outstanding sales and downloadable content they would make much more money than trying to capture an audience that probably would prefer other MMORPGs, while losing the current fanbase in the meantime. I can speak for my friends and brothers (every TES fan I know in reality): WE WOULD NEVER BUY A MMORPG TES. I think Bethesda already knows this, screwing your fan base is not wise...

hahaha
this is really great! i was just playing oblivion last night and wondering when/if they'd make a new elder scrolls game and how cool it would be.
by: alexp999I wouldn't want to develop for ancient hardware either. No offense, but Nintendo's products are almost all novelty these days.

I do remember them mentioning that the next ES could be an MMO.
I'd like to see an MMO from them, because I trust they would do something good in the genre,
but given the track record of modern MMOs, it might be a bad thing too.
However, I doubt they'll do both, it's probably one or the other.

I would not mind seeing multiplayer on this game as long as i don't have to dish out 30$ a month for it.
here here....
Cool, this just reminds me that I need to get around to finishing Oblivion. More importantly, I need to get around to modding it the way I want it and getting all the mods to play nicely
