Microsoft's newest operating system, Windows 7, though in an unreleased beta stage, has been grabbing a lot of attention lately. After the beta went online last week, Microsoft's servers seem to have been bombarded with hits. At least this seems to have worked in building up hype around Windows 7. In the latest move, Microsoft scrapped the official limit it set to give away "only" 2.5 million keys to be able to install and use the OS.

Microsoft will give away as many copies of the OS as it can, till the 24th of January. Till the 24th, people will have access to the download as well as procurement of the legal Windows 7 Beta 1 key.

When you download they should have given the key on the same page, you didn't get it? I think it says until 24th there is no limit in number of people downloading it.

I have to say, Windows 7 is a nicer Windows Vista than Windows Vista ever was. :D

If anyone's already got your key, but you're still having the 32-bit download crap out on your, try the Java downloader link: http://wb.dlservice.microsoft.com/download/6/3/3/633118BD-6C3D-45A4-B985-F0FDFFE1B021/EN/7000.0.081212-1400_client_en-us_Ultimate-GB1CULFRE_EN_DVD.iso

You'll have to copy and paste it into a new window, don't just click on the link. Should work every time.

LOL at some of the responses here:rolleyes: Bottom line folks, you have until the 24th of this month to download the ISO image and the appropriate keys. Once you've done that on or before the 24th, you should be straight.

Microsoft didn't give out 2.5 million unique keys, instead they were going to count the number of activations on their servers. If you get a key from Microsoft, you're going to get one of the ten that everyone else has been getting. To save you guys the trouble, here's the list of 10 that I got from their site, which is the same that everyone else has been getting (that I know of). Of course, the 32-bit and 64-bit keys work both ways.

64-bit
RFFTV-J6K7W-MHBQJ-XYMMJ-Q8DCH
482XP-6J9WR-4JXT3-VBPP6-FQF4M
7XRCQ-RPY28-YY9P8-R6HD8-84GH3
D9RHV-JG8XC-C77H2-3YF6D-RYRJ9
JYDV8-H8VXG-74RPT-6BJPB-X42V4

32-bit
QXV7B-K78W2-QGPR6-9FWH9-KGMM7
TQ32R-WFBDM-GFHD2-QGVMH-3P9GC
6JKV2-QPB8H-RQ893-FW7TM-PBJ73

Hmmmnn, none of those keys match what I received so I think it depends on which site/link you got them from;)

Has anyone actually installed Windows 7 ?

Well? Is it actually a perfectly use-able OS that I can have on for months, like Vista 64-bit SP1, or just some side-show intended to make me want to buy Windows 7 when it actually comes out retail? Of course, if it's anything like Vista, even the retail release will be buggy and unstable, so this beta should be an absolute disaster... right?!

Guys use this and stop worrying about the Keys...

I was using it quite perfectly for hours in a VM until I tried to download Firefox with IE8. No joke.

Coincidence?

Other than that, it seems pretty stable, and works great with 512MB of RAM in a default configuration (something Vista really, really struggled with). That being said, there's some painful reminders here and there that this isn't really a new OS, and is really just a tweaked Vista... :shadedshu

Thanks for the news btarunr.

Why does everyone have to slam MS, I think they were pretty open in letting more people try it and try to get it out. They didn't have to spend the time and money. They very well could have just shut the door and said to bad, sucks to be you.

It is great to have 2.5 mil beta testers.

By the way, my keys are completely different and work in 86 or 64 bit;)

its ironic, Windows Vista Beta-RC2 proved to be a good OS, Final Release Fell flat on its face even after SP1 released

I hope Windows 7 never has fate but is in the Ranks of Greatness

Aka Windows 98SE, 2000, XP
