In an exclusive interview with the guys at Neowin.net, Microsoft have confirmed, that provided no serious problems arise, they are on track to release Windows 7 RC on April 10. As yet the only changes which are known about, are User Account Control (UAC) fixes which prevent malware from disabling UAC all together.
More information about the development of Windows 7 comes from Geeksmack, with their email conversation with Steven Sinofsky, Microsoft Senior Vice President of Windows. Sinofsky said, "We have received an amazing amount of feedback, many suggestions for new features too, during the beta—over 500,000 suggestions just from the Send Feedback button." What was also interesting to note, "... by far the most humorous element has been that the build numbers blogged about are higher than our current build. Today's build is 7046, but it hasn't completed yet :-)"
Sinofsky is also said to have spoken to Ars Technica, and said that, "The build will be available broadly".

I'm excited to upgrade to something more stable than Vista. Not to say it was too unstable, but more stability can't hurt. :toast:
So Feb 27 was incorrect damn i wonder of this release will speed up the full versions release.

Some rumours are floating round which have stated that way back when we were told Q4 2009, that it was refering to Microsoft's Fiscal year. Which ends June 30th.
If you take a look here, they are saying it could be June/July. :D

I'm excited to upgrade to something more stable than Vista. Not to say it was too unstable, but more stability can't hurt. :toast:
Vista is plenty stable.... For the most part Vista has been fine since SP1...
Not to bad, only 2 months later than they originally planned and only one name change, since I got the scoop at CES from them.
Also does this feel rushed to anyone else? Seems to me like they are rolling it out a little faster than they should....

I don't think they'll be moving away from a registry any time soon. Knowing MS, doing so would only make the OS slower. But that's what faster hardware is for anyway. My i7 has been chewing up Vista like a dog toy. It needs a new challege now.

That's not all they have to fix.. If it still lags when you move files around I will probably wait until SP1. I'm more than happy with Vista.

vista is fine but windows 7 has been tweaked for less usage and has improved features, i like the look of it
its in beta just now but the RC will no doubt give a better pre view of the release version
people seem to forget it took years for xp to gain stability and it wasnt exactly the most resource friendly back in the day with systems with 256 and 512 mb memory of course a quad or a dual will eat up xp but it wasnt like that back in the day
so for windows 7 to be as good as an established OS is great

Yeah, I have been living with Windows 7 for about a month and I find it to be a great OS. I have far less desktop clutter and it's way of solving compatibility issues are just plain great. I think they should start optimizing the OS even further like taking advantage of L3 cache or something.
by: TheMailMan78Yeah I wish they'd at least improve the registry, there's no reason a third party program should ever find a registry key that is no longer needed, or that goes nowhere, windows should be able to resolve that itself. Also I really wish they'd find a filesystem equally fast as NFTS but that doesn't fragment. With all the resources MS has at their disposal, I don't see why this is seemingly out of reach (my guess is it's intentional, promotes new comp buying for those who don't know about it). Still the same old windows it seems, but I like new coats of paint, so I'll be looking forward to it.

compatibility perhaps? the same reason we havent completely eliminated ide and pci slots from motherboards

There was something that I was going to suggest to Microsoft through the feedback feature but hell if I can remember it now. :banghead:
PCI has a use for wireless cards perhaps, no need for higher speeds as far as I can see.
IDE, well Asus' approach to that is to put it in a PITA place, I swear they're trying to stop people using IDE.
I'd love to be having a play with win7 but I realised I downloaded the 64 bit version when I tried to run it on my netbook earlier, headdesk.

This will be the version of Windows 7 that i go for i think, i have tinkered with Beta 1 and it was nice, so RC should be tip top.
by: ATZ2000 a failure?? 2000 has been the most stable OS to DATE from M$... And Vista is fine if you know how to work a computer and dont try to run it on something with less than a gig of ram.

Speak for yourself. I switched to Vista SP1 on my new rig from XP SP2 and it's extremely slow.
Not only that, creating Rars takes ages, it didn't with XP. An hour to fit around 4.5GB into a Rar? Fuck that, took less than 30 mins on XP.
Boot is slower, browsing files in My Documents with thumbnails takes forever for them all to load, didn't on XP. Waiting on Uninstall programs to show, slow. Opening folders in the start menu? slow.
I've been using XP for about 5 years and Vista is nowhere near faster than XP for me.
I'm waiting for Windows 7 to come out, I didn't have any speed issues with that on my old rig.
