The anticipated Bluetooth 3.0 is gearing up to be launched this month. Set to be released on the 21st of April, the third Bluetooth specification will offer improved speeds, though they're not yet finally specified. Bluetooth 3.0 will be backward compatible with older Bluetooth standards. Most importantly Bluetooth 3.0 will use 802.11 protocol to transfer data. This will allow devices to pair through an 802.11 protocol and if there is no Wi-Fi detected, older Bluetooth standard will be used. The new Bluetooth specification will also add Enhanced Power Control - a feature that is said to reduce the number of disconnects between the paired devices and this way save the battery life. Later this month, when Bluetooth 3.0 is finally announced, the Bluetooth SIG will probably start making a list of manufacturers that will incorporate the new technology.

Yeah, also, if they continue improving Bluetooth, could it also be a nice wireless network connecting method? After all, it is a small technology that is friendly to small netbooks, and to motherboards!

why would they add the ability to connect to wifi? i thought the purpose of bluetooth was to be for PAN (personal area networks.)
The point is, that this is just a protocol , and new drivers needed to support it.
Only few branded devices will gain the valuable updates .
But still, Microsoft does not support lots of BT profiles in their OS , only third party companies had offer complete BT managing software, like Bluesoleil .
I am not that optimistic , under the current status, of who does uses or distribute this BT profiles.
I do own an HP PDA rx5915 , and took me ages to manage and activate the profiles on the workstation , so the PDA to get connected on the Internet due BT connection .
Any way ... we will see how it will go.
