Having hit the 1.00 GHz (core) mark with its recently-introduced Radeon HD 4890 Atomic Vapor-X, Sapphire still finds the need for a card with the Vapor-X cooler sans the factory-overclocking, leaving some headroom for enthusiasts to play with. The new HD 4890 Vapor-X uses a non-reference blue PCB, along with the Vapor-X cooler similar to that on the HD 4870 Vapor-X model. A vapor-chamber plate makes direct contact with the GPU. It conveys heat to a radial heatsink cooled by a central fan. The memory is cooled by heatsinks, while the VRM-area is cooled by a heatsink of its own.

Sapphire uses AMD reference clock speeds: 850 MHz (core), and 975 MHz memory. The card features 1 GB of GDDR5 memory. Its outputs are care of DVI, D-Sub, HDMI and DisplayPort connectors provided right on the card. The card will reach retail in a few weeks' time.

That is one beautiful card! I wonder why they kept the reference clocks?

So when you oc it, you feel like you've gain a massive oc. Not as much headroom w/ pre-oc'ed cards

I like how modern times have made it so we need small supercomputers inside our regular computers just to play games.

This is one pretty card I must admit. I would buy one if I didn't have my 4870. That looks like an excellent cooler

Nice, much better than the standard boxy cooler... Even better than my Toxic Sapphire :p

It might be sub par performance wise though, remember when the vapochill coolers came out? exact same performance as other standard coolers at the time, I can't imagine it would be worse though.

edit: I mean these guys not actual vapochill

Yeah, that happens to some people when they buy a 9500GT to replace a 8800GT just because the number is higher, too.

I'm starting to hate Sapphire as a brand. Their rebate is getting horrible. You will have to pay them a few bucks to get your rebate faster. I got my Visa rebate reward card and it expire by the time I had it... WT Fudge? Most of their card now have rebate on them. But overall, their card quality control is very good and I never have a bad Sapphire card except the rebate.

I had one go bad back in the day, a 9800pro, while I was on vacation one of the pins holding the heatsink to the card loosened and the card cooked itself until I got back. They were going to rma it no question though, I never got around to mailing it though..
Im happy with Sapphire though,

My point was that when I finally get the money together or enough balls to make a purchase it seems whatever I bought is already outdated. I'm never ahead. I always have just enough to keep my head above water.

I mean just look at my scores in my specs. They are horrible.

Staying just behind the curve seems to be the most financially feasible strategy.

Looks really nice. Id get it especially with the cooler. Should be able to definitely hit the 1.0 GHz on the core easily.

Cool, more of the same. Don't they have anything better to do than churn out only slightly different video cards?

That's a great looking card, but for now I will stick with my Crossfired 4850's

Nope! That's what they are in the business of doing. In case you haven't noticed, this is what happens with video cards. A version is initially released with a stock PCB and cooler, a few weeks later manufacturers come up with something on their own. It's called competition and variety. ;)
