Acer Debuts the Chromebox CXI Series

Building on the success of its award-winning and best-selling Acer C7 Series Chromebook, Acer America today announced its new Acer Chromebox CXI line for customers in North America. The CXI series is ideal for education, small to medium businesses and budget-conscious users who don't require a mobile platform and who are either invested in or want to leverage the affordability and security of the Google Chrome ecosystem.

Like the C7 Chromebook series, the Acer Chromebox CXI is fast. The CXI boots up in about 8 seconds and resumes nearly instantly from sleep mode thanks to the 16 GB Solid State Drive. Housed in a compact .6 liter (6.51 x 5.12 x 1.3-inches) chassis that stands upright and is VESA mountable, the Acer Chromebox CXI maximizes space, a key consideration for libraries, cube and classroom environments as well as small and medium businesses for task-based user terminals. Two Acer Chromebox models will be available late next month - the CXI-2GKM with 2 GB memory for a manufacturer's suggested retail prices (MSRP) of $179.99 U.S./$199 CAD and the CXI-4GKM with 4 GB memory for a MSRP of $219.99 U.S./$239 CAD.

Today, BitFenix is announcing not one, but two releases inspired by community feedback: Prodigy M Color and Prodigy M Window Side Panels

Intel Core i7-5820K Features Fewer PCI-Express Lanes After All

It turns out that our older report suggesting that the most affordable of Intel's new Core i7 "Haswell-E" HEDT processors will feature a slimmer PCI-Express root complex, even if it gives you 6 cores at a [hopefully] sub-$400 price-point, holds true, after all. Intel's wacky approach to its latest HEDT processor lineup was confirmed by leaked manuals of Gigabyte's socket LGA2011-3 motherboards, based on the Intel X99 Express chipset. The manual confirms that while Intel's $500-$750 Core i7-5930K and >$1,000 Core i7-4960X offer bigger 40-lane PCI-Express Gen 3.0 root complexes; the Core i7-5820K features a narrower 28-lane one. This means that multi-GPU configurations on systems running the chip won't be too different from those on LGA1150 "Haswell" platforms.

On motherboards with, say, three PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots, the i7-5930K and i7-5960X will let you run two slots at full x16 bandwidth, and a third slot at x8. On systems with the i7-5820K, the second slot won't go beyond x8, and the third one will cap out at x4. On boards with four slots, one of them will run out of bandwidth. The trade-off for this narrower PCI-Express interface is the fact that you're getting six "Haswell" cores, twelve logical CPUs enabled with HyperThreading, about 12 MB of L3 cache, and a quad-channel DDR4 memory interface, at a price-point not too far off from the Core i7-4790K. So for enthusiasts with no more than two high-end graphics cards, the i7-5820K could provide an attractive gateway option to Intel's new HEDT platform. You can find the leaked manuals in this thread.

Innodisk Announces New High IOPS Industrial SSDs

Innodisk, the service-driven flash provider, announces a new series of high performance industrial SSDs. Available in standard 2.5" SATA III as well as SATA Slim formats, the 3MG2-P series uses a custom new ID201 controller, synchronous NAND flash and 19 nm manufacturing process to produce high sequential speeds and random IOPS, while preserving industrial level reliability, power protection, and ruggedness.

High Performance
Industrial no longer means slow. Innodisks' 3MG2-P SSDs use a new generation of flash technology to combine reliable and rugged design with superior performance. The use of select synchronous NAND flash, with a custom ID201 flash controller and on-board- DRAM mean the 3MG2-P series achieves 530/460 Sequential Read/Write speeds and 80/76K random IOPS performance. The use of a smaller 19 nm process not only helps performance but also allows the 3MG2-P to be offered in a 1 TB capacity.
