Under the hood, the ROG Strix 850 W features a single +12V rail design with 80 Plus Gold rated efficiency, full-bridge LLC resonant converter, sync rectifier, and DC-to-DC switching. Among its connectors are a 24-pin ATX, two 4+4 pin EPS, six 6+2 pin PCIe power, ten SATA power, and three Molex. It is likely that ASUS extends the White Edition treatment to other models in the ROG Strix-G PSU series.

Thermaltake Outs Toughpower PF1 ARGB Power Supply Series

Thermaltake today rolled out the Toughpower PF1 ARGB of high-end power supplies. Available in three high-Wattage models of 850W, 1050W, and 1200W, these PSUs are characterized by their large 140 mm Riing Duo 14 RGB fans, and addressable RGB LED embellishments along both sides of the body, which together make up 18 diodes. To control the lighting, the PSU plugs into a 3-pin addressable RGB header of your motherboard or lighting controller. In the absence of external control, you can cycle through built-in lighting presets by pushing buttons at the tail end of the PSU, located sufficiently away from the main AC switch. Another switch located close to the AC switch, completely turns off the fan.

Aesthetics aside, these PSU have some serious chops: single +12V rail design with 80 Plus Platinum rated efficiency, full DC-to-DC switching, LLC digital control, 100% Japanese capacitors, active PFC, and most common electrical protection mechanisms against over/under voltage, over/under current, overload, overheat, and short-circuit. You get fully modular cabling, with all three models offering two 4+4 pin EPS connectors. The 850W model has up to six 6+2 pin PCIe connectors, while the 1050W and 1200W offer eight. Thermaltake is backing these PSUs with 10-year warranties. The company didn't reveal pricing.

Seasonic Prime AirTouch to Finally Launch Mid-January

Seasonic is finally getting around to launch its Prime AirTouch power-supply series sometime mid-January 2019. Just to give you an idea of how far along this product has been delayed, Seasonic developed it way back in 2016, and first exhibited it in CES 2017. The series will debut with an 850W model (SSR-850GD-AT), priced at $160. This SKU has already been showing up on American retailers such as Newegg and Amazon since late-October, but has been out of stock. A variation of the Prime Gold series, the AirTouch offers a small degree of fan-control to users. Its 135 mm fluid-dynamic bearing fan comes with five fan-curves, which you can select from by pushing a round button near the AC receptacle.

The fan-control button is embedded with an RGB LED that indicates the active curve. The first curve, called "Silent" (white), kills the fan when the load is below 40%, runs the fan whisper-quiet between 40-80% load, and spools up above 80%. The second curve, called "Low" (blue), runs the fan whisper-quiet up to 60% load, and spools it up from there. The "Medium" (green) curve runs the fan at moderate speeds and caps its speed to 65% beyond 80% load. The "High" (amber) curve maintains moderate speeds up to 80% load, beyond which the maximum fan-speed is capped at 80%. The "Turbo" (red) mode ignores all parameters and simply runs the fan at 100% speed. Seasonic is backing this PSU with its legendary 12-year warranty.

ASUS Announces the Premium ROG Thor PSU Lineup

ASUS ROG launched the ROG Thor 1200W Platinum and ROG Thor 850W Platinum power supply units, welcoming a new product category to the ROG family. The ROG Thor series is designed for enthusiasts who need a high-end PSU with advanced cooling, premium components, and customisable lightning.

In a PSU, component heatsinks are vital when optimizing thermal efficiency. The ROG Thor 1200W Platinum features custom ROG heatsinks that boast 2X more surface area than standard designs, and the ROG Thor 850W is similarly equipped. Having larger heatsinks and other premium components means cooler operation under load, an extended lifespan for key components, and silent operation long after standard designs spin up their fans.
