Sony PS5 V2 DualSense Controller Leaked by Best Buy

Best Buy Canada's site listed—by mistake—an entry for a Version 2.0 of Sony's venerable PlayStation 5 DualSense controller—the retailer proceeded to remove the leaked information and imagery, but several news outlets have preserved crucial details. The nixed page advertised a yet to be released "PlayStation 5 V2 DualSense Wireless Controller," that looks identical in appearance to Version 1.0—it even shares the same pricing of CA$89.99. Hooray for no price hiking, if this info is indeed accurate. A couple of internet sleuths have noticed that a Swiss retailer has listed V2 controllers (in white or camo)—these web pages became active back in December 2023.

The standout revelation from this leak appears to be much improved battery life—the Best Buy Canada website entry mentioned V2 being capable of lasting 12 hours on a single charge. Folks familiar with the current PS5 DualSense controller are accustomed to around six hours of usage, before a wired recharge session is required. The listing also outlined a Dual Sense charging station being bundled with Sony's V2 game controller. The sleuths also noted that the next iteration has an advertised weight of 280 g—CFI-ZCT1W AKA "V1" comes in at 360 g. Several online publications have contacted Sony PlayStation for a comment on the situation.

ASUS ROG Ally "Standard Z1 APU" Model Launches at $599

We have had to wait a bit longer for the launch of a lesser ASUS ROG Ally variant—the Windows 11 handheld gaming PC was officially revealed sporting an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU. A non-Extreme variant was teased to launch at a later date, which appears to be within the last couple of days—emerging first in North America. The more affordable—$599—offering has popped up for sale on Best Buy, and the ASUS store has a listing although it is currently "out of stock." This non-Extreme model's (RC71L-Z1512) arrival at retail coincides with Valve running a 20% price reduction on its Steam Deck handheld gaming range.

The $100 saving over the ROG Ally Extreme ($699) nets the customer largely identical features and specifications, apart from the main choice of APU. The Z1 non-Extreme chipset was analyzed earlier this month, with its "Phoenix 2" origin revealing usage of Zen 4c cores. The standard Z1 seems to be very similar in makeup to the mobile series Ryzen 5 7540U APU. The AMD Ryzen Z1 is a six-core Zen 4/Zen 4c APU with four RDNA 3 compute units, which is nowhere near as fierce as the "Phoenix 1" Ryzen Z1 Extreme—sporting eight cores (all Zen 4) and twelve RDNA 3 compute units.

AMD Ryzen 5 7600X Going for $200 at Best Buy

Best Buy has slashed $100 off of the AMD Ryzen 5 7600X's normal asking price—North American customers can obtain these 6-core/12-thread processors for $199.90 a piece. Amazon US price matching the consumer electronics store's offer earlier today, but their stocks were depleted at some point this afternoon. AMD's Ryzen 5 7600 (non-X) processor is still stuck at MSRP ($229), so its X-model sibling presents a better deal at its current lower price. Buyers will have to splash out extra on a CPU cooling solution, since Team Red does not include a Wraith Stealth or Prism air cooler as standard with the Ryzen 5 7600X's retail package. AMD + Bethesda's Starfield Game Bundle partnership campaign kicked off last week, and all of the AM5 desktop Ryzen 7000-series models qualify for the active promotion. This plays a part in boosting customer interest, but a nice discount also goes a long way—hence the quick run on Amazon's supplies of the Ryzen 5 7600X.

NVIDIA To Give Away Diablo IV with New GeForce RTX Purchases

US retailer Best Buy inadvertently revealed NVIDIA's next big GeForce game bundle. Team Green is planning to give away the hotly anticipated action RPG "Diablo IV." The "Rise Against Evil" bundle will see select models of NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics cards include coupons to the game. At this point we don't know which specific graphics card models are eligible for the $70 game, but that it will be limited to participating retailers, and in select regions.

iBUYPOWER Announces New MR Series of Cases

iBUYPOWER, a leading manufacturer of custom gaming PCs, today announced its new MR Series of PC cases, expanding upon the company's signature Slate, Trace and Element series of cases.

The Slate MR, Trace MR and Element MR all feature a black, partial-mirror finish on the front and side tempered glass panels. MicroCenter Sells Graphics Cards at MSRP - If You Also Buy Other Components

MicroCenter is known for its wacky deals on PC hardware, notably selling processors at below-MSRP rates. In a bid to ensure gamers - and not miners - have access to graphics cards, the retailer is willing to sell you one graphics card at MSRP, provided that the order (cart) includes a processor, a motherboard, a memory kit, and a power-supply (some of the key ingredients of a PC). This offer should help people building gaming PCs from scratch, but not so much people upgrading their graphics cards. It's still way better than how retailers from across the big pond are making sure crypto-mining doesn't irreversibly damage the gaming PC ecosystem. To ensure miners don't swallow up cards at MSRP by bundling them with cheap entry-level hardware, the offer can be redeemed once per delivery address.

Best Buy is another retailer selling graphics cards at prices close to MSRP. Amazon and Newegg are making a killing. This is a particularly terrible time to buy/upgrade your graphics cards, as bulk purchases from crypto-currency miners have caused a triple-digit inflation in prices. If your 2-year old graphics card can't cope with today's AAA games, maybe it's time to buy a console, or play a game IRL (like handball).

Woman Files $54m Lawsuit Against Best Buy for Lost Laptop

A woman in Washington D.C. has filed a $54 million lawsuit against Best Buy after the Geek Squad lost her $1,100 laptop when it was taken in for repairs. When Raelyn Campbell purchased the laptop she was persuaded to buy Best Buy's $300 extended warranty which offered three years of free repairs. In under a year the laptop in question developed a fault with the power switch so she took it to Best Buy where she was told it would take two to six weeks to repair. Campbell made numerous calls to Best Buy to check on how the repair was progressing and was continually told it should be fixed soon, however nothing happened so she left a message for the manager of the branch but received no reply.

Eventually one worker she spoke to revealed that the laptop had never been sent away for repair and had been lost in store - and all Best Buy were willing to offer was a $900 gift card, leaving Campbell $500 out of pocket. She then demanded $2,100 in cash, which Best Buy rejected, before contacting the Washington D.C. attorney general's office who contacted the store. The compensation was then raised to $1,100 cash and a $500 gift card, however Campbell discovered that her identity was at risk and filed a $54 million lawsuit against the firm, rejecting a further offer of $2,500 cash and a confidentiality agreement. Campbell admits that she doesn't expect to win a multi-million dollar settlement but is still chasing substantial damages.

Best Buy Profits Up 52%

Electronics retailer Best Buy saw its profits increase by 52% in the third quarter of this year compared to 2006, helped by reduced corporate expenses and an extra week of post-Thanksgiving holiday shopping due to a bit of luck with the calendars. Best Buy managed profits of $228 million for the third quarter of 2007, up from $150 in the same quarter last year. The company also saw a successful third quarter for its international operations in countries such as China and Canada, with combined profits in those areas increasing from $7 million to $22 million. However, the company has also lowered its expectations for the final quarter due to the extra week of post-Thanksgiving shopping that was included with the third quarter.
