Innodisk Introduces M.2 Single and Dual Gigabit Ethernet Modules

Innodisk, the service driven flash and embedded peripheral module provider, announces new M.2 form factor Dual and Single Gigabit Ethernet Modules using a USB 3.0 interface. These two embedded peripherals are the World's first M.2 form factor LAN Cards. The EGUL-G101 is an industrial grade Gigabit Ethernet module for network expansion and the EGUL-G201 is a dual Gigabit Ethernet module enabling networking redundancy, and port trunking/link aggregation for up to 2Gb/s speeds.

Shuttle Announces DH170 Mini-PC

As with two previous product launches from Shuttle, the new DH170 becomes a member of the product family of Skylake-compatible Mini-PCs. Netgear Introduces Quad-Mode Business-Class Wireless-AC Access Points

Realtek Develops New Onboard LAN Chip to Win Back Gamer Crowd

In a bid to regain market share lost to Intel and Killer (Qualcomm) in the DIY motherboard market, particularly with motherboards targeted at online gaming PC builds; Realtek unveiled a new onboard LAN solution called the Realtek Dragon. Intel and Killer have replaced Realtek as a preferred onboard Ethernet chip provider for DIY PC motherboards over the past two generations, as perception of their lower driver overhead, lower latencies, and other advantages spread. Sensing that merely improving drivers for its existing RTL8111 family of PCIe gigabit Ethernet PHY chips won't fix the situation, Realtek sought to give its latest generation an off-beat brand name that it hopes could appeal to the DIY crowd.

At the heart of the Realtek Dragon is the new RTL8118AS, a PCIe gigabit Ethernet PHY, much like the 8111 family. Realtek says it made refinements to the chip over previous generations, which will offer better performance (lower driver overhead) for traffic with small UDP packets, which is how most online multiplayer games work, and lower power consumption than competing solutions, such as the Killer E2200. Realtek even set a new branding for its chip, and will allow motherboard makers to print it on their PCBs, just as they print branding for Killer or Intel onboard LAN solutions. Realtek Dragon will make its debut with certain socket LGA1151 motherboards by ECS.

MSI Also Unveils X99S Gaming 9 ACK Motherboard

MSI updated its flagship Gaming series socket LGA2011V3 motherboard portfolio with an upgraded variant of the X99S Gaming 9 AC, the X99S Gaming 9 ACK. The "K" in the "ACK" stands for "Killer," denoting the board's Killer DoubleShot Pro feature, which lets you team up your wired gigabit Ethernet, with WLAN, to produce a staggering 1.866 Gbps of bandwidth, at low latency. In other words, the board features a Qualcomm Killer WLAN controller, instead of the Intel-made one on the standard X99S Gaming 9 AC. Intel Core "Skylake" CPUs Accompanied by 100-series Chipset

Intel answered the burning question some of us had about what the desktop chipset that succeeds the 9-series will be named. For now, Intel is referring to it as "100-series," on early internal roadmap documents scored by VR-Zone. Much like the current 9-series, 100-series will consist of a single PCH silicon, from which several variants will be carved out by toggling features.

There will be four primary kinds of "Skylake" packages, SLK-S, which will be socketed LGA; SLK-U, which will likely be compact, ultra-low power BGA, for Ultrabooks; SLK-Y, which will probably be mainstream BGA for compact desktops and all-in-ones; and SLK-H, which will likely be mainstream BGA for conventional notebooks. This generation of CPUs and PCHs, will also be accompanied by four kinds of wireless network controllers, depending on the target form-factor, "Snowfield Peak" Wi-Fi + Bluetooth, "Douglas Peak" WiGig + Bluetooth, "Pine Peak" WiGig, and XMM726x 4G LTE controllers; and "Jacksonville" GbE wired Ethernet controller. Thunderbolt standard will undergo an evolution with the company's "Alpine Ridge" controller.

ECS Intros Socket FM2+ Motherboard Based on AMD A58 Chipset

ECS unveiled its first socket FM2+ motherboard based on AMD's new A58 FCH entry-level chipset, the A58F2P-M4. This narrow micro-ATX motherboard draws power from a combination of 24-pin ATX and 4-pin CPU connectors, and uses a 3+1 phase VRM to condition power for the APU, which is wired to two DDR3 DIMM slots, and a PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slot. The only other expansion slot is a PCIe 3.0 x1. Connectivity is fairly basic, with four SATA 3 Gb/s ports, D-Sub and HDMI display outputs, 6-channel HD audio, and gigabit Ethernet. Expect this to go under $50.

TP-Link Outs 300Mbps Wireless Range Extender AV500 Powerline Kit

MSI Rolls Out 760GMA-P34FX Socket AM3+ Motherboard

MSI rolled out the 760GMA-P34FX, a cost-effective socket AM3+ motherboard in the micro-ATX form-factor, designed with out of the box support for AMD FX "Vishera" processors. Based on the dated AMD 760 chipset with SB710 southbridge, the motherboard still offers modern connectivity, such as SATA 6 Gb/s and USB 3.0, but using third-party controllers.

Drawing power from a combination of 24-pin ATX and 4-pin CPU power connectors, the 760GMA-P34FX offers two DDR3 DIMM slots, supporting up to 16 GB of dual-channel DDR3 memory. A PCI-Express 2.0 x16, a PCI-Express 2.0 x1, and a legacy PCI slot make up its expansion area. Storage connectivity includes six SATA 3 Gb/s ports (from the SB710 southbridge), and two SATA 6 Gb/s ports (from an ASMedia ASM1061 controller).
