Measuring 69.0 x 17.0 x 8.0mm (LxWxH), these drives weigh just under 40 g. Available in capacities of 4 GB (MXUB2MCX-4G), 8 GB (MXUB2MCX-8G), 16 GB (MXUB2MCX-16G) and even 32 GB (MXUB2MCX-32G), these drives offer transfer rates of 15 MB/s read and 8 MB/s write. These are price (in above order) at around US $9, $20, $30 and $64, respectively.

Buffalo Intros Stylish New USB 2.0 Flash Drives with Retractable Connectors

Buffalo Japan released a pack of stylish new flash drives to its lineup with the RUF2-JMS. Measuring 21 x 9 x 55 mm, and weighing just under 10 g, these drives use slider-retractable USB connectors. The [still] standard USB 2.0 interface is used with transfer speeds of up to 33 MB/s, when used with the bundled Turbo PC software. The drives are available in four color options: "night black", "moon silver", "earth brown" and "ocean blue". In terms of capacities, the drives are available in 4 GB and 8 GB variants. These are expected to reach the Japanese market later this month.

The units measure 65.68 x 10.66 x 22.37 mm, and use a capped body. The 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 GB variants are priced at €5.85, €7.11, €11.98, €25.42 and €52.10, respectively.

Active Media Products Launches 100 MB/sec eSATA Flash Drives

Active Media Products, a leading manufacturer of SSDs and USB drives, today launched eSATA (external SATA) Flash drives that boast sequential read and write speeds up to 100 and 55 MB/sec respectively, about three times faster than the fastest USB 2.0 flash drives. Corsair Launches High Capacity, High Speed Voyager GTR Flash Drives

Corsair, a worldwide leader in high-performance computer memory, power supplies and flash memory products, including solid-state drives, today announced the Flash Voyager GTR family of USB flash drives. These USB flash drives feature outstanding speed in a variety of densities.

PhotoFast Unveils Compact mini-SATA Flash Drives

Quick-draw Flash storage specialist PhotoFast introduced mini SATA flash drives (essentially compact SATA SSDs that plug into the connectors). The G-Monster mini-SATA and G-Monster mini-DOM drives are about as big as cartridges of retro portable game consoles, measuring 45 x 37 x 7.5 mm and weighing 10 g. They come in capacities of 32 and 64 GB, and offer reasonably good transfer rates at 110 MB/s (read) and 60 MB/s (write). With the standard arrangement of SATA data and power connectors, the G-Monster mini-SATA should plug into any SATA drive docks/enclosures. Apart from being a portable storage medium, it can also be tucked away as a system drive for a NAS server. The G-Monster mini-DOM on the other hand, can plug directly into one of the motherboard's SATA ports, and draw power using its 5V adapter. The two will hit shelves in October. Buffalo Intros Series of Secure Flash Drives

Buffalo Japan announced a series of secure USB flash drives with capacities ranging between 16 and 32 GB. Products include RUF2-HSCxxGUW, RUF2-HSC32GW, and RUF2-HSCL-U16G (where "xx" is 16 or 32, indicating capacity in GB; pictured in the same order below). Selling points include the security features: SecureLock, which makes it a key for the computer, data encryption, and a native anti-virus solution from TrendMicro that scans files when its being copied, and quarantines infected files into a separate folder. The drive also lets you maintain a usage log of the drive, which tracks every file moved in or accessed. The RUF2-HSC32GUW will sell for 39800 JPY (US $420), the 16 GB variant at 29800 JPY ($320), RUF2-HSC32GW for 38800 JPY ($415), and RUF2-HSCL-U16G at 22800 JPY ($250). The drive will hit stores in Japan by mid-July

In other words these SSDs do not need external power connector to operate normal and transfer data via either eSATA or USB. Considering the size and the mobility of the drives, these speeds are more than you can ever want. Unfortunately, Pretec didn't mention the price and availability date in their announcement.

Buffalo Releases New USB Flash Drives with Enhanced Security Features

Buffalo on Friday released fresh 1 GB, 2 GB, 4 GB and 8 GB USB flash drives with enhanced security features. The RUF2-HSCL-U series drives keep your private data safe thanks to a 256-bit AES encryption and built-in realtime scanning anti-virus software developed by Trend Micro. Buffalo said the drives could come out around the middle of this month, priced at $55, $76, $129 and $184 respectively.

PQI to Launch More Flash Based Storage Devices at CES 2009

Besides the USB 3.0 demonstration, visitors attending the 2009 CES at Las Vegas may also take a look at PQI's booth, where the company will have on display their full range of Solid State Drives, USB Flash Drives (UFD), Memory Modules and Flash Memory Cards.
