CeBIT 2009: G.Skill

G.Skill did not have a booth in the public area last year. This time around, they have such a presence and are showing off their newest DDR3 line-up. Gone are the tiny and fairly noisy fans. Gone is the rainbow line-up of colors for heatspreaders. The compnay has really cleaned up their product line and is opting for different looking heatspreaders for their different type of memory. The very successful PI series has been expanded to DDR3 as well. G.Skill is also introducing three differently named triple channel kits. The fastest, running at 2133 MHz with CL9 is called Trident and can be viewed in a running system, with a base clock of 133. The second model is named "Perfect Storm", runs at 2000 MHz CL7. The last is the afore mentioned PI Black series, running at 1800 MHz CL7. All of these modules are actively cooled with various clip-on or screw-on fans.

The DDR2 memory also features a similar active cooler and the PI series is available with up to 1200 MHz CL5 as a 4 GB Kit.Source: G.Skill

G.Skill Titan SSDs Ship in 128GB and 256GB Capacities

G.Skill has also expanded its solid-state offerings, by introducing the new Titan SSDs. Available in 128GB and 256GB models, the 2.5-inch Titan drives make use of MLC (multi-level cell) NAND flash chips, have a second generation SATA 3.0 interface and a MTBF (mean time between failure) of 1.5 million hours. The drives also have built-in EDC/ECC data protection. The manufacturer claims sequential read and write speeds of up to 218MB/s and 162MB/s respectively. The G.Skill SSDs are covered in a strong metal alloy housing and ship with a 2 year warranty.

Coolaler Sets New Super Pi 1M Record, 7.281 seconds

Chinese PC enthusiast website Coolaler set a new world-record score for the lowest time taken to crunch Super Pi 1M benchmark, their setup did it in 7.281 seconds. Here's what they used to achieve this feat:
  • Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 at 6.253 GHz (625 x 10) with VCore of 1.936V
  • DFI LAN-Party UT P35 motherboard
  • G.Skill 4GBPI DDR2 at 1285MHz memory
  • Liquid Nitrogen (LN2) cooling
Looking at their previous run of 6.143 GHz, this is also the highest overclock for the E8600 so far.

G.Skill Starts Offering 8GB and 16GB DDR2-800 Memory Kits

High-end memory manufacturer G.Skill has begun offering 4x 4GB (16GB) as well as 2x 4GB (8GB) DDR2 PC2-6400 kits for all proffesional users working with memory-hungry applications. G.Skil said that the memories are guaranteed to work on motherboards based on Intel P35, X38 and X48 chipsets and with the majority of AMD chipsets for the AM2 platform (AMD 790FX, 780G, 690G, nForce 590, 570). But before buying these kits, please refer to your motherboard manual and check if it supports that amount of memory. For example NVIDIA’s nForce 680i and 780i chipsets support up to 8 GB of memory. The kits are tested to work at DDR2-800 (PC2-6400) speeds with CL5-5-5-15 timings and 1.8V.
