MSI Announces Radeon HD 7750 OC V2 Graphics Card

MSI announced a the R7750 OC V2, a new factory-overclocked graphics card based on the Radeon HD 7750 GPU. The card ships with clock speeds of 830 MHz core, with 4.50 GHz memory. It packs 1 GB of GDDR5 memory across a 128-bit wide interface. Based on the 28 nm "Cape Verde" silicon, it packs 512 Graphics CoreNext stream processors. Unlike the R7750-PMD1GD5/OC, the new OC V2 features a quieter single-fan cooler, which uses a round GPU heatsink with radially-projecting aluminum fins. The new cooler also appears to be cost-effective, giving MSI more room for price-cuts.

NVIDIA Plans Two New SKUs Based on GK106

A little later this month, NVIDIA plans to launch the GeForce GTX 660, its first desktop GPU based on the 28 nm GK106 silicon. The GTX 660 carries NVIDIA's ASIC codename GK106-400. An internal document detailing other SKUs based on the GK106 in the works, was leaked to the web. According to a 3DCenter.org report, the two ASIC codenames GK106-250 and GK106-200 described in the document could be new SKUs.

The GK106-250, carrying a working title GeForce GTX 655, could have one of the five SMX units of the GK106 disabled, resulting in a CUDA core count of 768. According to the document, it features a 192-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface, holding 2 GB of memory, much like the GTX 660. The GK106-200, on the other hand, with a working title GeForce GTX 650 Ti, could feature just three of the five SMX units on the GK106 silicon, making up 576 CUDA cores. According to the document, it features 2 GB of GDDR5 memory across a 128-bit wide memory interface, much like the GK107-based GTX 650. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 and GTX 650 Launch Together on September 12

According to a new 3DCenter.org report, NVIDIA is planning a joint launch of two its key mid-range GPUs, the GeForce GTX 660 and GeForce GTX 650, on September 12, 2012. The two GPUs will let NVIDIA capture key sub-$300 and sub-$200 price-points, with performance levels that could destabilize AMD's Radeon HD 7800 and HD 7700 series. Based on the GK106 silicon, the GTX 660 is said to pack 960 CUDA cores and 2 GB of GDDR5 memory across a 192-bit wide memory interface; while the GK107-based GeForce GTX 650 is said to pack 384 CUDA cores and 1 GB of GDDR5 memory across a 128-bit wide memory interface.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 Pictured

Here is the first picture of what the retail version of NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 650 graphics card looks like. Based on the same GK107 silicon as the GeForce GT 640, the GTX 650 features faster GDDR5 memory. Its reference design board closely resembles that of the GT 640, with the exception of the black PCB and a 6-pin PCIe power connector to draw power from. Interestingly, the new chip has the same typical power draw rating as the GT 640, at 65W. This could give it a significant performance/Watt edge over its predecessor, the GeForce GTS 450. The GeForce GTX 650 packs 384 CUDA cores, 16 ROPs, and a 128-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface, holding 1 GB of memory. It is said to feature similar GPU clock speed to the GT 640, lack of GPU Boost, but with 5.00 GHz GDDR5 memory, compared to the 1800 MHz GDDR3 memory the GT 640 features. ASUS ROG MARS III Dual GTX 680 PCB Pictured

ASUS' Republic of Gamers MARS III dual-GeForce GTX 680 graphics card may have been extensively covered at this year's Computex event, but very few have had a peek at its innards (PCB). Expreview posted pictures of the card's PCB, sourced from the manufacturer.

The pictures reveal an unusually long and tall PCB, which draws power from three 8-pin PCIe power connectors, a 21-phase VRM that uses Super Alloy chokes and driver-MOSFETs, PLX PEX8747 PCI-Express 3.0 x48 bridge chip, and of course the two GK104 GPUs with a total of 32 individual GDDR5 memory chips (16 for each GPU, 16 on each side of the PCB) wired to them, totaling 8 GB of memory.

Edit: We received an update from ASUS, clarifying that this card will not be released. The design was only displayed during a factory tour, to show ASUS craftmanship.

ASUS Announces a Trio of DirectCu V2 Graphics Cards

ASUS announced a trio of DirectCu V2 series graphics cards, the Radeon HD 7950 DirectCu II V2 TOP (HD7950-DC2T-3GD5-V2), the Radeon HD 7870 DirectCu II V2 TOP (HD7870-DC2TG-2GD5-V2), and Radeon HD 7870 DirectCu II V2 (HD7870-DC2-2GD5-V2). The three cards feature slightly modified cooler and PCB designs over the originals. In case of the HD 7950 DCU2 V2, the cooler is compacted with a denser heatsink, and the PCB reduced in length. In case of the HD 7870 cards, the cooler uses a denser heatsink.

The HD 7950 DCU2 V2 TOP ships with 900 MHz core, and 5.00 GHz GDDR5-effective memory. It packs 3 GB of memory across a 384-bit wide memory interface. The HD 7870 DCU2 V2 TOP ships with 1100 MHz core, and 5.00 GHz memory, while the HD 7870 DCU2 V2 ships with 1000 MHz core and 4.80 GHz memory. The two pack 2 GB of memory across a 256-bit wide memory interface.

GIGABYTE Outs Corrective BIOS Update for GeForce GTX 670 WindForce 3X OC

Apparently, GIGABYTE's GeForce GTX 670 WindForce 3X OC graphics card (model: GV-N670OC-2GD) is riddled with stability issues that can only be corrected with a graphics card BIOS update. The stability issues apparently relate to the way the GPU is addressing overclocked Hynix GDDR5 memory chips. The company released a pair of BIOS files, version F4 based on NVIDIA source BIOS 80.04.31.00.58 and version F12 based on NVIDIA source BIOS 80.04.31.00.09. The two were posted recently, but are date-stamped 13-Jul-2012. The two don't change the clock speeds the card ships with: 980 MHz core, 1058 MHz GPU Boost, and 6.00 GHz memory. Graphics card BIOS updating is a trickier process than motherboard BIOS updates, and you need to be really sure what you're doing. Find the BIOS files, and related documentation in the link below.

MSI GTX 660 Ti HAWK 3-way SLI Pictured, Tested

MSI's upcoming GeForce GTX 660 Ti HAWK 3 GB graphics card, installed in 3-way SLI configuration was pictured. One of the three was put through 3DMark03 and 3DMark 11. The picture reveals a card that looks similar to the company's GeForce GTX 670 Power Edition. MSI used double the memory amount, by populating the GPU's 192-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface with 3 GB of memory (2 Gbit x 12). The card is cooled by MSI's Twin Frozr IV cooling solution. It is clocked at 1020 MHz GPU core, 1098 MHz GPU Boost, and 6.00 GHz (GDDR5-effective) memory. The GPU-Z screenshot reveals more details.

While three of these cards were pictured in 3-way SLI configuration, only one of the three were put through tests. The cards were driven by a yet-unannounced GeForce 304.87 beta driver. In 3DMark03, the MSI GeForce GTX 660 Ti HAWK scored 18,731 points, and in 3DMark 11 Extreme Preset, it scored X2,862 points. Both these figures are similar to those of a reference NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670.

Swedish Retailers Begin Listing ASUS GeForce GTX 660 Ti DirectCU II

Several Swedish online retailers have begun listing ASUS GeForce GTX 660 Ti DirectCU II graphics card ahead of its worldwide launch. The card is listed at roughly 3,350 to 3,551 Swedish Kronor (US $492 to $521), including local taxes. The lowest price before taxes is 2,679 Kronor ($393.5). Looking at these prices, we expect US pricing to be in the $380-$420 range, before taxes. None of the retailers detailed the card, let alone post pictures of it. Based on the 28 nm GK104 silicon, the GeForce GTX 660 Ti is expected to feature 1,344 CUDA cores, and 2 GB of memory across a 192-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface.

GeForce GTX 650 Ti Specifications Detailed

A little earlier this week, specifications of NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 650 graphics processor were reported. An even newer report by DonanimHaber details its sibling, the GeForce GTX 650 Ti, designed for the sub-$250 market. The new GPU is based on the NVIDIA's newest GK106 silicon, while the GTX 650 sticks to the GK107, and is essentially a beefed-up GeForce GT 640. These are the specifications of the GeForce GTX 650 Ti we're looking at:

Leadtek Intros 4 GB WinFast GeForce GTX 680

The newest in the parade of 4 GB GeForce GTX 680 graphics cards is made by Leadtek (model: WFGTX680-4G). The WinFast GTX 680 4 GB, for the most part, sticks to NVIDIA's reference design. Its cooling solution is completely carried over from it. From the looks of it, the PCB, too, is similar to the reference design, with the exception of double the memory amount.

The 4 GB of memory is spread across 16 GDDR5 memory chips. Leadtek's card sticks to NVIDIA reference clock speeds of 1006 MHz core, 1058 MHz GPU Boost, and 6008 MHz GDDR5-effective memory. The card draws power from two 6-pin PCIe power connectors. Slated for 1st August release, the Leadtek WinFast GeForce GTX 680 4 GB is priced at 59,800 JPY (US $765).

MSI Intros 4 GB GeForce GTX 680 Twin Frozr III Graphics Card

MSI introduced a 4 GB model of its GeForce GTX 680 Twin Frozr graphics card (model: N680GTX Twin Frozr 4GD5). The card is further available in standard (1006/1058 MHz core/GPU Boost) and OC (1058/1124 MHz core/GPU Boost) variants. The 4 GB of memory, spread across a 256-bit wide memory interface, is clocked at 6008 MHz (GDDR5-effective) on both variants. The card appears to make use of a custom-design PCB by MSI, which draws power from two 6-pin PCIe power connectors, and the company's trusty Twin Frozr III cooling solution, which has been featured on several of its high-end graphics cards. The new 4 GB variants could cost about 20% higher than their 2 GB counterparts.

Two New SAPPHIRE HD 7970 Vapor-X Editions Released

EUROCOM Launches NVIDIA Quadro K5000M with Panther 3.0

GeForce GTX 660 Arrives Mid-August: Report

NVIDIA's newest product designed to strike the price-performance "sweetspot," the GeForce GTX 660, is set for a mid-August market launch, according to a SweClockers report. The new chip could roll out some time between August 13 and 19. Given that other Kepler-based SKUs have been launched on Tuesdays or Thursdays, it's likely that the launch date could be either the 14th, or the 16th. The GTX 660 will be based on the 28 nm "GK104" GPU. It will feature 1,344 or 1,152 CUDA cores, and a 192-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface, holding 1.5 GB of memory, according to the report. The new GPU could capture a crucial sub-$300 price-point.

AMD Readies Radeon HD 7950 GHz Edition

NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 670 presents a big problem to AMD's Radeon HD 7900 series lineup. It clearly outperforms Radeon HD 7950, outperforms Radeon HD 7970 in most cases, and maintains a healthy cost-performance lead over Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition, even if it lags behind in performance. To combat this, AMD is reportedly working on a new SKU, called Radeon HD 7950 GHz Edition.

The "new" Radeon HD 7950 GHz Edition will be priced competitively to the GeForce GTX 670 (around $350-400), will retain the core configuration of the original HD 7950, with 1,792 Graphics CoreNext stream processors, 112 TMUs, 32 ROPs, and 384-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface holding 3 GB of memory; but will feature higher clock speeds, with a core clock speed ≥1.00 GHz, and could feature AMD PowerTune with Boost feature. It is also reported that a majority of HD 7950 GHz Edition graphics cards launched to the market (later this quarter), will be cost-effective non-reference designs by AMD's add-in board (AIB) partners.

ColorFire Radeon HD 7870 XStorm Graphics Card Detailed

Colorful's AMD Radeon-centric graphics card brand, ColorFire, is out with a new graphics card which keeps in tune with the design principle of backing a performance-segment GPU with preposterous amounts of features (VRM, cooling, OC features, etc.) The company showed off its Radeon HD 7870 XStorm graphics card at this year's Computex event in Taipei, though it is only now that we're seeing pictures of the card taken apart. Pictured below is the card of the hour. This Radeon HD 7870 graphics card is so long, that it comes with a support brace for workstation cases and Apple Mac Pro.

The card powers the otherwise cool and quiet "Pitcairn" GPU with an 8+1+1 onboard VRM, which can be expanded by a 4-phase VRM card that supports higher power draw. The card draws power from two 8-pin PCIe power connectors. Despite a VRM design that's fit to condition power for the HD 7970 GHz Edition (or jump-start an SUV), the ColorFire HD 7870 XStorm ships with mildly-overclocked speeds of 1050 MHz core and 1250 MHz (5.00 GHz effective) memory. It packs 2 GB of GDDR5 memory across a 256-bit wide memory interface.

PowerColor Launches its Single Slot Low-Profile Radeon HD 7750 Graphics Card

PowerColor launched the world's first single-slot + low-profile graphics card based on the Radeon HD 7750, the PowerColor HD 7750 LP. The card relies on a compact air-cooler, which uses a dense hive of aluminum fins, ventilated by a 40 mm lateral-flow fan to cool the 1.5 billion transistor GPU. The card draws power from the PCI-Express slot, and uses high-grade VRM components (such as CPL-made chokes, LFPAK MOSFETs, etc.,) to condition power at minimal board footprint.

The card doesn't compromise on clock speeds, and ships with 800 MHz GPU and 1125 MHz (4.50 GHz GDDR5 effective) memory clock speeds. Built on the 28 nm "Cape Verde" silicon, the Radeon HD 7750 packs 512 Graphics CoreNext stream processors, 32 TMUs, 16 ROPs, and a 128-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface, holding 1 GB of memory. The display connectors on PowerColor's card include one each of dual-link DVI, HDMI 1.4a, and D-Sub (detachable). The card's accessories include a low-profile bracket. PowerColor did not reveal pricing.

ASUS Readies ROG ARES 2 Graphics Card with Dual-HD 7870 GPUs

ASUS is working on its second Republic of Gamers (ROG) ARES graphics card, the ARES 2 dual-HD 7870. Its first ARES was dual-HD 5870. ASUS' decision to go with a pair of Radeon HD 7870 GPUs, instead of the premium HD 7970, certainly comes as a surprise. With it, one could deduce the target market-segment ASUS is aiming at: US $650-750, providing a solution that outperforms even the fastest HD 7970 GHz Edition and GTX 680 graphics cards, while being cheaper than Radeon HD 7990 (which is MIA), dual-HD 7970 X2, and of course, the GTX 690.

ASUS ARES 2 will back two 28 nm "Pitcairn" GPUs with all components unlocked; likely factory-overclocked speeds beyond those of the HD 7870 GHz Edition; and a total of 4 GB of GDDR5 memory (2 GB per GPU system). The card will draw power from two 8-pin PCIe power connectors, and will have a TDP of around 300W. It will take advantage of AMD ZeroCore CrossFire, with which it powers down the second GPU when not gaming, or with light 3D loads that the first GPU can munch on. With the monitor idling for a set amount of time, both GPUs power down. It's likely that ASUS will use a triple-slot cooling solution, despite the fact that the HD 7870 is a generally cool GPU. Pictured below is the first-generation ROG ARES (dual-HD 5870).

Intel Xeon Processors E5 Achieve Fastest Adoption, Announcing Xeon Phi Co-Processors

The Intel Xeon processor E5-2600 product family reached a new supercomputing milestone as the fastest adopted new processing technology to power 44 systems, including 3 Petascale-class supercomputers on the 39th edition of the Top500 list announced today.

The "SuperMUC" supercomputer at LRZ in Germany, which ranked fourth on the list, delivers 2.9 PetaFLOPs of performance, making it the most powerful in Europe, as well as the largest installation based on the new Intel Xeon processors E5 family.
