Intel Media SDK Helps Accelerate Atom-Based Devices and Open Source Software

Intel Media SDK 2013 now supports fixed-function hardware acceleration for video on Intel Atom processor-based tablets with Microsoft* Windows operating systems including video playback, editing and conversion.

The SDK, newly optimized for upcoming 4th generation Intel Core processors, codenamed "Haswell," includes enhanced support for Windows 8 including Microsoft DirectX 11, fully accelerated MPEG2 encode and MPEG/JPEG decode, and a Windows Store development sample. Use of Intel Media SDK 2013 also includes free licensing and source for integration with Open Source projects. The SDK is available as a free download.

Intel Delivers Broad Range of New Mobile Experiences

Intel Corporation executives held a press conference today to outline a plan to accelerate new mobile device experiences across the company's growing portfolio of smartphone, tablet and Ultrabook offerings.

The announcements included a new smartphone platform for emerging markets, details on a forthcoming 22 nm quad-core SoC for tablets, and more personal and intuitive Ultrabook devices in innovative convertible designs were outlined by Mike Bell, vice president and general manager of the Mobile and Communications Group, and Kirk Skaugen, vice president and general manager of the PC Client Group at Intel.

VIZIO Refreshes Its Premium PC Line-Up

VIZIO announced today its spring 2013 line-up of Windows 8 PCs, equipped with 10-finger capacitive touch displays on every new model. Seamless touchscreen technology and premium entertainment enhancements to the new spring line give users the ideal interactive Windows 8 experience, supported by outstanding picture quality and rich audio.

Velocity Micro Announces New Products for CES 2013

Velocity Micro, the premier builder of award winning enthusiast desktops, laptops, peripherals, and Cruz tablets announces several new products to be debuted at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Intel Core "Haswell" Delayed till Computex 2013, No Show at CES

It looks like Intel's Core "Haswell" processor family will miss its anticipated March-May launch window, with the company choosing Computex 2013 as its next launch-pad. According to a leaked document intended for distributors and large retailers, desktop Core "Haswell" processors will launch only after May 27, before June 7, and retailers are told to hold off advertising the launch till June 2nd.

Among the products featuring in the new May 27 - June 7 launch window are the Core i7-4770K flagship product, i7-4770, i7-4770S, i7-4770T, i7-4765T, i5-4670K, i5-4670, i5-4670S, i5-4670T, i5-4570, i5-4570S, i5-4570T, i5-4430, and i5-4430S, all of which are quad-core parts. In addition, socket LGA1150 motherboards based on Intel Z87 (flagship, OC-ready), H87, Q87, Q85, and B85 chipsets, will be launched. In all likelihood, one piece of decoration the CES venue could miss, is the wall of LGA1150 motherboards, which is usually put up by Intel.

NEC Japan rolled out the world's thinnest Ultrabook, the 15.6-inch LaVie X (model: LX850/JS). It is just 12.8 mm thick (375 x 255 x 12.8 mm), weighing 1.59 kg. NEC achieved its thickness thanks to innovations in cooling that spreads cooling components apart. It features an LED backlit IPS LCD screen featuring 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution, Intel Core i7-3517U processor, 4 GB of RAM, 256 GB SSD storage, and Windows 8. Connectivity includes two USB 3.0 ports, 802.11 b/g/n WLAN, Bluetooth 4.0 +HS, HDMI display-output, SDHC/SDXC card slot, and a 2-megapixel web-camera. It is slated for market availability on December 27.

Apple iMac Available on November 30th

Apple today announced the all-new iMac will be available on Friday, November 30. Intel Perceptual Computing SDK 2013 Beta and Creative Developer Kit Now Available

The Intel Perceptual Computing SDK 2013 Beta, announced in September at Intel Developer Forum, is now available as a free download. Gigabyte's U2142 Windows 8 Convertible Ultrabook Gets Detailed

Like pretty much all its rivals Gigabyte Technology is embracing Windows 8 and is preparing to release various PCs running Microsoft's latest operating system. One such PC is called U2142 and is actually a convertible ultrabook featuring a rotating 11.6-inch (1366 x 768) touchscreen. This upcoming 2-in-1 machine packs an Intel Core i3/i5 ULV processor, up to 16 GB of RAM, up to a 1 TB hard drive backed by a 256 GB solid state drive, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, optional 3G, USB 3.0 connectivity, and an HDMI output.

The U2142 will start at about $999 and should become available next month.

Fujitsu Stylistic QH77 Convertible Unveiled

Fujitsu unveiled the Stylistic QH77, a 11.6-inch convertible, which works as a large-sized tablet PC, and as a notebook, when docked. Its 11.6-inch screen packs 1366 x 768 pixels resolution. Under the hood is an Intel Core i5-3427U (dual-core, 1.80 GHz) processor, 4 GB of memory, and 64 GB SSD. Windows 8 64-bit and Office Home and Business 2010 come pre-installed.

Connectivity on the Stylistic QH77 includes USB 3.0, gigabit Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n WLAN, Bluetooth, HDMI, D-Sub, and multi-format card-reader. The keyboard base adds physical connectors for additional USB 2.0 ports, the RJ45 jack for Ethernet, and D-Sub. As a tablet, the QH77 packs 4.8 hours battery life. The keyboard base, with its additional battery packs give it 10.7 hours to go on. With the base attached, it measures 302 x 203 x 26.1 mm weighing 1.7 kg. Detached from its base, it measures 302 x 195 x 12.7 mm, weighing 850 g. It is slated for October 26.

German company Wortmann has just added a new, business-oriented laptop to its portfolio, a 15.6-inch model known as TERRA MOBILE 1541 PRO. Pictured below, Wortmann's notebook features a Full HD (1920 x 1080) screen, an Intel Core (i3, i5 or i7) processor, up to 16 GB of RAM, integrated graphics, up to a 1 TB hard drive and, optionally, a 256 GB solid state drive, a 2-megapixel webcam, Gigabit Ethernet, WiFi, Bluetooth, a 9-in-1 card reader, an ExpressCard slot, three USB 3.0 ports, plus D-Sub and HDMI outputs.

The TERRA MOBILE 1541 PRO runs Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) and starts at €759.

Samsung's Windows 8 PC Lineup Now Available for Pre-Order; In Stores October 26

MSI AE2712 Windows 8 All-in-One PC Pictured

Here is the first picture of MSI's upcoming performance all-in-one desktop based on Windows 8, the AE2712. As its model number might suggest, the AE2712 derives its name from its 27-inch display. The display is touch-capable, and features 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution. Under the hood is an Intel Core "Ivy Bridge" processor; a variety of CPU, memory, and graphics options will be available. MSI will launch the AE2712 close to that of Windows 8. More details are awaited.

Acrosser Unveils the AMB-QM77T1 Mini-ITX Motherboard

It does away with discrete graphics, for starters. Driven by 3rd Generation Intel Core processors and Intel HM76 Express chipset, the CR61 supports up to 32 GB of dual-channel DDR3-1600 MHz memory, up 250/640/720 GB HDD storage options, and DVD SuperMulti drive.

The 15.6-inch glossy LED-backlit LCD display packs 1366 x 768 pixels resolution, and is driven by integrated Intel HD graphics. Connectivity options include 802.11 b/g/n WLAN, gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth 4.0 with 100 meters range, 5-in-1 memory card reader, HDMI, D-Sub, USB 3.0, and stereo HD audio. The body embeds a 1.3 megapixels web-cam, and 4W stereo speakers. A 6-cell battery powers the CR61 on the move. Measuring 383 x 249.5 x 37.6 mm (WxHxD), the CR61 weighs about 2.4 kg. It comes in all-black and red+black color options. Windows 7 Home Premium comes pre-installed. Pricing differs with market.
