MSI and Corsair Announce GeForce GTX 980 Ti Sea Hawk Graphics Card

MSI, world leading manufacturer of gaming and overclocking hardware, is proud to announce the result of a unique partnership with Corsair at the Tokyo Game Show 2015. Combining MSI's expertise in graphics cards and Corsair's closed loop liquid-cooling solution, the GeForce GTX 980 Ti SEA HAWK was born. This latest addition to the legendary MSI Hawk graphics cards family provides outstanding gaming performance at low temperatures and low noise levels.

The MSI GTX 980 Ti SEA HAWK utilizes the popular Corsair H55 closed loop liquid-cooling solution. The micro-fin copper base takes care of an efficient heat transfer to the high-speed circulation pump. The low-profile aluminum radiator is easy to install and equipped with a super silent 120 mm fan with variable speeds based on the GPU temperature. However, to get the best performance, the memory and VRM need top-notch cooling as well. Therefore, the GTX 980Ti SEA HAWK is armed with a ball-bearing radial fan and a custom shroud design to ensure the best cooling performance for all components.

MSI Unveils Turbo U.2 Host Card

Ever wondered why nobody made a SATA-Express SSD? We guess it's probably because of its IDE-sized connector. The SSD industry is turning its attention to other connector standards, such as M.2 and the newer U.2 (formerly known as SFF-8639). The U.2 is essentially a cabled M.2 connector, designed for drives in more common form-factors, such as 2.5-inch. The connector itself is more narrow, although it has the same pin-count as M.2, and the same bandwidth (up to 32 Gb/s with current PCI-Express standard).

ASUS debuted the connector on its flagship Maximus VIII Extreme motherboard, but MSI doesn't plan to be left behind. MSI released a new accessory that converts M.2 slots into a U.2 port. The MSI Turbo U.2 Host Card has wiring to support 32 Gb/s physical layer. The card could be included in MSI's upcoming high-end motherboards, and looking at the way it's branded and packaged, it could even be sold separately. One of the first U.2 drives is Intel SSD 750 in its 2.5-inch avatar.

MSI Readying a Liquid-cooled OC Series Graphics Card with Corsair Tech

MSI, which recently topped off its graphics card lineup with the air-cooled GeForce GTX 980 Ti Lightning, is preparing an addition to its coveted OC Series, with a new liquid-cooled graphics card it co-developed with Corsair. MSI teased this with an abstract image posted below on its Facebook page, with the tag "GraphicsCard," so we know it's not a motherboard. There's no other information in public about the product. We expect it to be an MSI-exclusive variation on Corsair's Hydro Series HG10 VGA bracket, which holds on to one of its Hydro Series AIO liquid cooling solution, but both MSI and Corsair are known to spring up surprises.

MSI GeForce GTX 980 Ti Lightning Pictured

Ahead of its launch, press-shots of the upcoming flagship graphics card of MSI, the OC-series GeForce GTX 980 Ti Lightning, leaked to the web. The pictures reveal a card that MSI threw all its engineering expertise into. It retains the yellow+black design scheme of its predecessors, and is characterized by an even larger Tri-Frozr triple-fan cooling solution. The cooler consists of a large nickel-plated copper base, from which five 8-10 mm thick heat pipes make their way to two dense aluminium fin-stacks, ventilated by a trio of 100 mm spinners.

The cooler only makes up part of this product, a bigger chunk of engineering went into its custom-design 10-layer PCB, with a 15-phase VRM that draws power from a combination of one 6-pin and two 8-pin PCIe power connectors, and a plethora of overclocker-friendly features such as voltage measurement points, dual-BIOS with an LN2-friendly secondary BIOS, the ability to control speeds of individual fans, and more. The MSI GTX 980 Ti ships with a factory-overclock of 1203 MHz core, 1303 MHz GPU Boost, and 7.10 GHz (GDDR5-effective) memory; which certainly isn't the highest factory-OC out of the box, but this is probably MSI's way of inviting users to overclock it to Kingdom come.

A departure from the MS-7850 common-PCB, which the company used on various Intel 8-series and 9-series chipsets, the Z170A PC Mate features a boarder form, and covers all the platform basics. The board draws power from a combination of 24-pin ATX and 8-pin EPS power connectors, and features a 6-phase CPU VRM. The CPU is wired to four DDR4 DIMM slots, supporting up to 64 GB of dual-channel DDR4 memory, and one PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slot.

MSI Teases GeForce GTX 980 Ti Lightning Graphics Card

MSI put out the first teaser of its upcoming top of the line graphics card, the GeForce GTX 980 Ti Lightning. The card is expected to feature MSI's craziest cooling solution to date, its strongest VRM solution, and out of the box clock speeds that are in the same league as ZOTAC's Amp! Extreme. It's rumored that the GPU Boost frequency MSI 980 Ti Lightning will be set at 1342 MHz, which is not too far away from the 1355 MHz of the Amp! Extreme. It comes down to how MSI will cool the card, and how effective its VRM is, because given the right cooling and power, that 13 MHz deficit shouldn't matter, and the card could still end up as the fastest. It shouldn't surprise us if MSI sticks to the silver+red color-scheme that made its debut with the Z170A XPower Gaming Titanium motherboard.
