Samsung Announces Industry-First 45 nanometer Embedded Flash Logic Process

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a world leader in advanced semiconductor solutions, today announced the industry's first 45 nanometer (nm) embedded flash ("eFlash") logic process development. Samsung successfully implemented the new process into the smart card test chip, which means that this process technology fulfills the stringent quality requirements of the security solution market and can be successfully deployed on a commercial scale.

"Samsung's 45nm eFlash logic process has the potential to be broadly adopted into various components for security solutions and mobile devices, including smart card IC, NFC IC, eSE (embedded secure element) and TPM (Trusted platform module)," said Taehoon Kim, vice president of marketing, System LSI Business, Samsung Electronics. Sony Introduces New VAIO Fit Laptop, Updates Current AIO and Ultrabook Lines

Sony today introduced the brand new VAIO Fit laptop built with Sony's innovative digital imaging, sound and display technologies. New Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers with AC Technology Now Available

Linksys today announced the availability of the latest additions to its Smart Wi-Fi portfolio. The Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router AC 1200 and AC 1750 are available immediately and the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router AC 1600, model EA6400, is planned for availability in late May. The new Smart Wi-Fi routers can be installed from virtually any device through browser-based set-up; and with Linksys SimpleTap, consumers can easily connect new devices to the home network through innovative ways, such as scanning a QR code or NFC tag. All new models feature industry-standard beamforming technology that significantly helps improve router speed, overall performance and wireless range in the home.

GammaTech Introduces Semi-Rugged Ultra-Mobile Personal Computer

Buffalo Japan Intros New Wired and Wireless Mice for Windows 8

Buffalo Japan introduced a fleet of new wired and wireless mice optimized for Windows 8, thanks to gesture-recognizing touch surfaces along the top, that augment the main buttons and scroll wheels. Among the products launched are the wireless BSMBB10N series, and wired BSMBU12 series. The BSMBB10N series mice are equipped with Bluetooth and NFC tags. The NFC tag lets you configure the mouse with an NFC-equipped Windows 8 tablet or Ultrabook by simply waving the mouse close to the host device, saving you the trouble of configuring Bluetooth or WLAN settings. Unpack, wave, use - it's that simple.

The BSMBB10N series mice are available in as many as six 2-tone color options, including blue, red, green, pink, orange, and gray. Measuring 60 x 35 x 100 mm (WxDxH), the mice weigh about 58 g. The primary sensor has a resolution of 1,600 DPI, its Bluetooth reception range is 10 m. Moving on, the company also launched the wired BSMBU12, which use common USB wired connectivity but retain the touch surfaces that let you perform gestures. These mice are available in six similar 2-tone color options to the BSMBB10N. The wireless, NFC tag-equipped BSMBB10N series mice are priced at 3,465¥ ($31), while the wired BSMBU12 go for 2,089¥ ($26).

Visa and Intel Form Strategic Alliance to Advance Mobile Commerce

Visa Inc. and Intel Corporation today announced a strategic agreement to develop mobile commerce solutions tailored to consumers in developed and developing countries. During a press conference at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the companies outlined plans to collaborate to ensure consumers enjoy a consistent, streamlined, secure mobile commerce experience across Intel Atom-based smartphones and tablets.

HP Envy 14 Spectre Now Available

HP's posterboy Ultrabook, the Envy 14 Spectre, was announced last month amidst some fanfare, though it wasn't immediately available. As announced it is now available via HP's online store for US $1,399.99 for the base-configuration, and 1,899.99 for HP's "recommended configuration", which includes a 256 GB SSD, and a Core i7-2770M processor instead of a 128 GB SSD and Core i5-2467M on the base-configuration, among other HP-exclusives. The 14-incher measures 12.88" (W) x 8.7" (D) x 0.79" (H), weighing 1.8 kg, packs a 1366x768 pixel screen; two of its most notable features, apart from its size, include solid-state storage and near-field communication (NFC).

NFC Forum and Bluetooth SIG Publish Developers Guide to Use NFC for Bluetooth Pairing

The NFC Forum, a non-profit industry association that advances the use of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, and the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG), the trade association responsible for the development, promotion and protection of the Bluetooth specification, today announced the publication of Bluetooth Secure Simple Pairing Using NFC.
